PVCs back again

Just wanted to say hi and mention my dreaded nighttime PVCs are back..been slowly sneaking up on me…god I hate these uncomfortable sensations…thank god I’m over 8 months since my THR..now on top of morning fears and worry, I can almost guarantee these things happen later in the evening…belching and bad digestion doesn’t help…I get to see my psychiatrist this Wednesday about the morning fears…glad I can come here to write something to somebody…hope everyone here has a peaceful nice Christmas…

Bless you, Tom. I have a suggestion for you, and unfortunately there's no way to tell if it might be the ticket for you until you try it. I have done this, having learned of it just a few weeks ago. The pyloric valve, at the top of the stomach, is sensitive to acid. It pinches closed when exposed to acid, which it will be exposed to shortly after you have consumed anything substantial that activates acid production. At least, that's what the story is. So, if you find yourself belching acid-fumed gas, and having indigestion, you're in two deficits: a pyloric valve that can't/won't shut and insufficient acid to make it do so if it wants to shut. Further, you may need a reconfiguration of your gut flora...all the microbiota that a healthy human has all the way down the alimentary tract, top to bottom. Taking pro-biotics, enriched yogurt, fermented vegetables like sauerkraut and kimchi, really helps.
But, to get help right quick for belching and indigestion, there's something I have begun to do and it works! Swallow about a full tbsp of apple cider vinegar. What!?!?! When I have acid indigestion?!? Gimme a break! Yes, when you have belching and acid indigestion, take MORE acid. Apple cider vinegar is highly acidic, and rather unpleasant to take neat. But very soon after you take it, your pyloric valve will shut and you'll find yourself in bliss. You may still belch once or twice, but you won't have to put off going to bed, for example, while you let your stomach calm down...often hours later. You'll be good to go inside of 90 minutes.
You want to avoid exposing the higher esophagus to stomach acid. All sorts of bad things can happen, including cancer...apparently. So, as soon as you begin the cycle of belching and grimacing with acid reflux, go get that apple cider vinegar and knock 'er back. Not particularly fun, but what comes inside of ten minutes is a lot better experience.
Maybe we should asked Santa all we want for Christmas is a life without PVCs and PACs. It sure would be a greatly appreciated present!!!!!!!!!!!
@ pvctom may try Gas-X (simethicone) as well as Pepcid or Zantac, and stay relatively upribeght. I have paroxysmal afib and finally figured out that Gas-X helped me more than heart meds! Worth a try! Take it an hour before bed or whenever you feel gassy and belch.
I find sleeping on my right side helps me not feel the PVCs so strongly.
The acid in the esophagus can indeed trigger PVCs so an antacid before bed might be helpful.
Thank you all for these helpful these helpful suggestions and it’s always nice to know there are many out there who have these PVCs and GERD problems.. I did take a 20ml dose of mylanta liquid…it did help with the indigestion and acid backup…this is a nice place to be and to come to at 2 in the morning with anxiety or PVCs disturbing your rest and peace…bless you all…Tom

Thank you for the information…I take in addition to a PPI (Aciphex) a gas x gel tab, and a 20 ml dose of mylanta liquid when these are strong and disrupt sleep..💤 thanks for the information and in the past have found the sleeping on the right side sometimes helps or sometimes the left…sometimes just propped on a pillow…they seem to come and go in lengthy episodes then mysteriously go away..then weeks, months later, something seems to rile them up..💭🤨
Sleeping on the left side is best for GERD as it positions the opening from the stomach to the esophagus in the "up" position, helping keep acid in the stomach. Sleeping on the right side is easiest on the heart.
You may wish to see a gastroenterologist to diagnosis your stomach issues and perhaps prescribe a medication to help with the acid issue. I take 20 mgs of Pantoprazole which controls the reflux MOST of the time and when it doesn't, I take a couple of Tums. But still, every so often, when I lie down the PVCs start up. Usually they only last maybe 20 minutes or less but it is a real onslaught when it is happening.

It just occurred to me to mention that there are foods that routinely trigger GERD. For me it was and is citrus fruit. It might be worth researching that to see if eliminating some item in the diet, especially at night might be helpful.
