Neuropathy Pain at Night: What helps?

Posted by Donald @donfeld, Jun 8, 2020

THC or marijuana for me relieves pain from neuropathy. It works every time takes a few minutes and a few puffs of smoke and it comes it down for some crazy reason that makes this drug so popular.

Often pour Frankensense and Myrrh oil on feet as I go to bed. Seems to calm the neuropathy down so I can fall asleep and Tylenol pm helps me through the night. I also take 600mg Gabapentin but doesn’t stop night pain, but does help.

Why does neuropathic pain occur in the PM? Just curious about this

I have found that if I take Lyrica about an hour before bedtime, it is helpful.

Tried but made me drowsy all the time. My pain comes and goes. Can’t figure out why? It is mainly at night when I am trying to sleep. The f &m plus the Tylenol PM works every time.

I have a real hard time sleeping at night too. I don’t know why maybe it’s stuff that we eat. That’s all I can figure.

I have been wearing compression socks 15-20 mmhg at night which helps a little. Also using Arginine cream which increases circulation in the extremities.

Thanks for asking a question I have wondered about. Although mine did start occurring in daytime also. However not as bad. Replies to your question are suggestions for sleeping better. I don’t think anyone knows the answer to your question

Hello @madmouse43. You are not alone with neuropathy pain at night. In fact, others have been sharing their experiences in another discussion, so you will notice I have moved your post here to join them:

How long has this been going on for?

Grounded sheets (maybe):

I have now had all tests the VA will pay for… heavy metals blood, MRI, vascular and arterial studies, and nerve function. All they know is I have PN in feet but all other tests show nothing. Could be connected to some type of exposure during my service. I have recently started thinking it may be a reaction to the shingles vax as they have found nothing else. Legs also get heavy and at night and if I bent my legs in bed I’d get huge pains shooting down them. Feet would go CRAZY at night, pain, freezing/burning feeling, swollen feeling. Tried several meds (gabapentin, lyrica, etc)… nothing worked while also making me feel like crap in other ways.

Three weeks ago I started sleeping on grounded sheets. Shooting pain in legs at night immediately went away. Feet are about 80% improved at night. My wife also has aches and pains that have all gotten better with the sheets.

I have also been using Nooro EMS massager for about six weeks which helps during the day. I do not know if it has also helped at night but I feel like the credit goes to the sheets because it was immediate relief.

I’m not endorsing the sheets, just sharing my experience… neither my wife or I experienced the “best night of sleep ever” that seems to be the sheets big selling point. Have had a few really good nights sleep but nothing to write home about.

@rubie and others - here's a study on grounded sheets. The attached figure with an explanation is from the link below:
