Affects following a Stroke in surgery

Posted by paul61a @paul61a, Nov 30, 2023

Anyone else have a stroke during or between to surgeries. I had two surgeries related to my ruptured aortic aneurysm. I had a stroke before the second surgery. I didn’t think to much of it as I seems to recover very well. Now however, I have increasing levels of anguish and anxiety that I never had before. Worrying about the strangest things.
Can this be from the stroke? Anyone else having this problem. ?

Hello @paul61a. I'd like to invite @purpleturtle and @andytheman to this discussion as they have also posted about strokes in the Aortic Aneurysms support group and the ongoing concerns that it has caused.

@paul61a, it sounds like your anguish and anxiety are uncontrollable since your stroke? Does anything in particular trigger your anxiety, or does it come and go at random? You have a lot on your plate right now with your diagnoses and experiencing a stroke among two surgeries. Have you discussed this new symptom with your surgeon or cardiologist?

Hello Paula - When you had your surgery related to your aortic anuersym did they give you a mechanical heart valve? I understand being fearful. If they had not found my anuersym and it ruptured I would have died within 15 minutes. It was found during a routine exam. No symptoms at all so I was very very scared. I have been on blood thinner warfarin for 13 years which requires constant blood tests, restricted diet (no greens, alcohol, etc)
I have recently been diagnoted with Warfarin resistance causing my blood to be very thick resulting in a recent stroke. It is like the warfarin in no longer working. Unfortunately their is not other blood thinner I can take.
Apparently this is very rare (less thant 0.1%) so trying to figure out how to treat it is very difficult. I am currently seeing a hemotologist. All my doctors say is is very complicated. I live in constant fear of another stroke. Please be your own advocate. Talk to your doctors, get a second opinion if necessary. I wish you well.

They tend to come and go at random. I only recently did research on the effects and assumed that the mood swings had more to do with my Aortic Aneurysm.

To tell the truth, I was just happy to be alive and tried to suck it up.

I have a call appointment with my GP in two weeks and will talk to her about going back on the Seritonan uptake inhibitor that I was on before all this.

I have a call into the heart surgeon also.

Thanks for that purple turtle.

I wish you well also and sending good feelings into the universe.

Thankfully my meds are all working well with the possible exception of my uptake inhibitor. I have regular tests (CT Scans and ultrasounds) and follow up with each of my doctors (Cardiologist, Vascular, Neurosurgeon and GP).

As for the value, they were amazed that they were able to fix me up without having to remove the Aortic value.
