Did I stop growing? What can a teen do to grow taller?

Posted by vamp14 @vamp14, Aug 8, 2021

I’m 14 years old and have been 5’6 for about a few months now and I’m not sure if I should be worried or not. I hit my first growth spurt back in 4th grade when I was 4’9 and grew, by the time I was in 6th grade I was 5’1 . Then 7th grade came and I grew 5 more inches. By the time the pandemic started I was 5’6. I started 8th grade and finished 8th grade (currently about to go to 9th) and still haven’t grown a single inch. The doctor says I have a lot of testosterone and should be exercising more so I did but no signs of growth yet. Is there a certain exercise or medication or any remedies I can take to increase my height or maximize it?

I am 15.6 years old and 178 cm (5'10). My mother is 5'6 and my father is 6 foot. Although all my other family members are quite short, my dad grew to be surprisingly tall. Although i was estimated to be over 6 feet when i was younger, i havent grown a single inch since june of last year. ( i was 5'6 march 2020.) June is coincidentally the year i started to start lifting heavy weights. I exercised frequently and even made sure to eat healthy. I grew pubic hair around (late 13-early 14) and i have yet to grow any significant facial hair. Is this the end of my growth? Is there anything stunting my growth such as my bad posture or my weightlifting? Is there anything i can do to help my growth?

I am a male and I started puberty at around age 10-11. I was always taller than mostly everyone, up until age 13-14 where all my friends started getting a head taller than me. I am 164cm at 14 and a half years old. I saw something about tanner stages and I had symptoms of tanner stage 4 at age 12 e.g: armpit hair, pubic hair and facial hair. I think I am in tanner stage 5 right now as I have pubic hair growing out to the medial thigh and subtle hairs connecting my belly button to my pubic hairs. My parents heights are below average. My dad being 165cm and my mum being 160cm. I am a second born and my older brother is standing at 175cm. I just really want to know whether I will grow anymore and maybe reach a height of at least 167-170cm by the end of my teens.

I’m 5”4 male and late 13yrs old. My pubic hair started growing around 9 yrs old and I noticed strands of armpit hair recently. Does this mean I will no longer get taller?

Hi!
Im 12.3 years old girl and 5'0 ( 150cm ) . My friends are all 5'3 - 5'6 and they always call me short. Its getting to the point that i get really upset about it. My mum is 157.50cm and my dad is about 177cm. I haven't hit puberty yet. Will i still start growing and how tall do you think i would be? I also do gymnastics for 1hour per week.

Hi @ivyandcoco,
Some people are later than others to their growth spurts. Most boys show the first physical changes of puberty between ages 10 and 16, and tend to grow most quickly between ages 12 and 15. The growth spurt of boys is, on average, about 2 years later than that of girls.

Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect!
It’s hard to understand why some people find pleasure in making hurtful comments about another person’s height.
If you haven’t started puberty yet , you still will have a growth spurt.
Many of the other girls probably have had their first period and their growth will slow down.
Your final height probably falls somewhere close to your parents’ heights.
Next time you see your doctor you can ask the same question.

Is it normal that I’m 5’3 at 13 years old? My dad is 5’7 and mom around 5’0. I entered puberty when I was 10 and by now I’m probably done with puberty as I already have a mustache and hair on areas. Genetics say I should be 5’6-5’8 but I haven’t grown since June and my birthday was 2 months ago. Can I still grow?

I am 15, 16 in March and 188 cm. My dad is 189cm and my mom is 178 cm. I had my first growth spurt at 6th grade to 180 cm and ever since I grew to my current height. I barely grow much. I eat healthy, I workout but not too much and I try to sleep 8hrs a day. Is it possible that I have stopped growing? I know I am tall enough but I kinda want to be taller, like at least 190cm

Hello @moamzohar, welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I moved your discussion and to another discussion of the same title where other teens have posed the same questions and concerns you have. https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/did-i-stop-growing-at-14/. Knowing exactly when and where you will stop growing is difficult. @noamzohar, if you are comfortable sharing, is there a specific reason you would like to grow a few more centimeters yet, or is it just a desired height you are hoping to obtain?
