My pain is better if I just sit in the recliner or lie down in bed. I find myself spending a lot of time reading Connect posts and responding to many. I spend time every day on Facebook, and I enjoy playing Word Mix and other word games. I try to keep ahead of our magazine subscriptions, read books on subjects that interest me, and theoretically playing the piano, which I love to do, but depression tends to stand between me and practicing. (My BA is in music, focus on piano.)

It is definitely helpful to be doing something you enjoy and can still do physically. If you don't have anything that fits into that space, try something new that is not physical. Anyone started a new activity lately that is undemanding physically?

For me, I don't feel pain when I'm petting my dogs and they're showing me affection. Now you try it.

Hello having a bad pain day today with my upper back/shoulder area and going up my neck into my head. Nothing seems to be helping today. I am also a bit upset because my pain doctor that I have been going to for the last 4 years has joined another larger medical group and they do not take my insurance. I was laid off last June and have had insurance through the health insurance exchange. Won't qualify for medi-care for another 3 years!! I have seen my doctor twice since then but had to pay cash and can't keep doing that. I think it is time for my cervical facet joint injections and definitely time for some trigger point injections as well. Have been trying to find a doctor that will accept my insurance but am not having much success, plus I am a little bit scared since I had a really good pain doctor and now having to start over with a new doctor.

@lyssia oh my goodness I hear your frustration I too will eventually have to leave my pain doctors and I can't afford to see them anyway because I've got too many co-pays to pay and my husband just lost his job. Show my heart goes out to you and prayer that God will provide all that you need hugs Victorious 69

Jim, the thing I find so great about reading is that our worlds don't shrink and become diminished when we can read about everywhere and everything. I feel the same about Connect and other social media. It is not my preferred way to have discussions with friends, but it is certainly better than none at all. My wife was a music major before settling into education and still plays on occasion when someone will be unable to do so at church. She thinks it sounds horrible, but to me, she still makes beautiful music and I bet you do to. I think when we do anything to the best of our ability, it is beautiful and isn't that always reserved for the eye/ear of the beholder. So you play and we will metaphorically enjoy!

@lyssia, I know a new doc is scary, but I have had it happen that in switching, I end up with someone younger who has more belief in me and in trying something different. I am sorry for your pain today and hope that it subsides. I would expect that your insurance card has a number that you could get info on the nearest doctor to you who accepts it. I hope you can find someone who is even better than the last.
