I'm Elizabeth. I've had fibromyalgia since 1998. In the last few years, I've developed osteoarthritis and spinal stenosis. I am married with four adult children and a wonderful, caring husband. We also have a wee dog, Bella, who forces me outside for walks twice a day. Lately, managing the FM symptoms has seemed like a full time job and I'm in need of some serious motivation.

@blindeyepug I really enjoy your balanced approach to life! You continue to discuss an exceptional box of tools for dealing with your problems - you must be a very creative person! Are you an artist or musician? Teresa

Hi Teresa. I have a regular job in law, but considered myself an unpublished writer! LOL.(I have written two novels and a series of short stories. My genre tends to lean toward Stephen King territory.) My mother and one of my sisters are extremely talented artists. I am a voracious reader, and have been in and out of therapy over the years. I have learned to try things suggested or which I have read about and discard the ones that don't work for me. I also believe God gives me the strength to keep on keeping on!

I had not heard of it but did find some information on Mayo Clinic's website:

http://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/hyperbaric-oxygen-therapy/basics/why-its-done/prc-20019167

Hopefully others can share their experience with it.

The Mayo source is good and FDA approves bariatric oxygen therapy for 13 diagnoses. Most seem to be related to healing of wounds. I do know that when the barometric pressure is high....I have less pain, and when it is low, when a storm cell comes through....my pain increases and I usually end up in bed until the weather system moves out of the area.

Thanks for looking that up. Hopefully my insurance will cover it and I will give it a try since that is what I had originally. But it has been so many years ago but that is what a foot doctor suggested. Will let you guys no what happens.

@blindeyepug Your list of interests and talents do not surprise me at all! I appreciate the way you continue to share with others your ideas for coping and moving forward. The idea of trying new ideas and discarding that which doesn't work, is a great plan. I know that these are hard-learned lessons. Teresa

Hi Vickie, I have chronic pain, and even if it you don't want to hear it, they are using marijuana more and more for it. It is getting so hard to get any opiods for the pain, and the Drs are pumping up the medical marijuana. What about it bothers you? I tried the marijuana, and it made me paranoid, but for many people it is the only thing that helps. They are talking about putting it in the elderly patients food because they could tolerate it better and you don't get all the side effects of the pain meds. Are you on pain meds? I am on Vicodin, and have to go to a pain clinic to get it as my Doctor won't prescribe it, and there are days I don't need it so I don't take it, but then they give you less pills at the pain clinic. But you don't know when you are going to need it so it is good to have a months refill, but they are afraid you are going to sell it instead of taking it. I think at 71 years old I am not in the business of making money, I just want to help myself, and keep my stress level down, but my fear is someday I won't be able to even get the Vicodin for my pain. How do you feel when you are in pain?marield65

I have the same fear that they'll take away my Vicodin, now called Norco because they reduced the amt of Tylenol. It is the only thing that takes my pain away, and I only take one a day so I can get some physical household chores done. Some days I don't even take one, Hoping one Advil and heating pad will help before I get out of bed.

@artscaping Is bariatric oxygen therapy the same thing they use for burn victims? There is a hospital in a small town in Maine that we go through on our way to our "camp" that specializes in that. Who would ever think that a small town hospital would have that? I presume it is primarily in larger medical centers.

Not necessarily...some physicians have the units in their offices. You can even buy units for your home. I think the oxygen therapy is what is used for burn victims but I am not an expert. My former husband was treated for bladder cancer from radiation with bariatric chamber visits daily for 6 weeks. A former employer worked for a physician who had a unit in his office.
