Thank you for your wise words, "expertly-prescribed". Not only do we need to know exactly what we are swallowing or applying, but also the possible inter-related reactions on our other medications and our conditions.[if even known].
The amount of interplay between all of these factors can be dizzying!
To find out all of this and to be assured of the benefits and the absence of possible detriments, is a tall order. Of course, if your conditions are not complex and life-threatening, then the worry is far less.
Before I moved, I had a wonderful Naturopath, who was very clear about the progression of my conditions, and was clear when my requirements were "beyond" her scope. She said that in the future, I was never to just try 'something' in a "give it a try and see" directive. I was to proceed in a cautious manner and never diminish the severity of my conditions: not just possibilities of inter-reaction, but a possible cancelling of the benefits of medications by the other. I was to always be mindful of the "delicate balance" I was navigating.
She gave out tough love; yet, strong truth.
All the best of wisdom in making these decisions.
I purchase Guaifenesin from Amazon. There are no added ingredients. I have been taking it for 25 years. It was first prescribed by my allergist long before I had lung problems.

Since I've been consistently taking Guaifenesin, my sputum is a lot thinner and easier to expel. Prior to taking it, I had extremely thick, sticky mucus. So, maybe it is a matter of opinion and personal effectiveness.
I want to follow "MAC &Bronchiectasis" Support group and be notified about new activity

I saw a recent report on the news that guaifenesin is no more effective than placebo.
