Anxiety and Acid Reflux anyone?

Posted by vsby @vsby, Oct 12, 2023

I have anxiety that started 18 months ago never had it before in my life. About a year ago I started to develop acid reflux and it’s just getting worse. Anyone else have that problem. Doctors just keep throwing medication at me and they’ll make me sick I don’t think I’m alone.

I have been doing online. CBT psycho/educational classes along with mindfulness meditation.

I had a brain hemorrhage almost 4 years ago at Pilates. After an excellent and very grateful recovery I was healthy, walked 8-10
Km about 5 times a week and more activities. Happy, healthy, no worries.

After 28 months I thought it was time
To try pilates again. I went to the same
Studio 2x one week and the next week the anxiety started.

I also was rear ended car accidents in 10
Years.

My counselllors, ans the doctors have no idea if this what caused it. (There is more trauma from 28 years ago too) which I had LOTs of counselling.

The problem is that it is free floating GAD so I have anxiety almost all the time and I am getting so worn out. It consumes me.
Hard to go out, so socialize or be creative.

My arms burn when I am really anxious and so does my face sometimes.

I have had enough

I appreciate you detailed response...it seems you're apparently doing what is recommended by experts. So the plausible reason could only be there's something that is not as well done as needs to be.

The second thing I'd like to ask. Mayo has listed eight items under perception/thinking/emotional response and another eight (starting with fatigue that you've mentioned) under physical symptoms. Are there any relevant to your condition?

Lastly, you say the second time u went back to Pilates studio your anxiety hit back. Did ANYTHING (a trigger) at the last day(s) at the studio, i.e, 4 years ago, happened that led you to stop using studio? After all u were OK before rejoining the studio for Pilates, right?

Finally since you say u have GAD even tho u r doing CBT (on ur own) w/ mindfulness /meditation, what exactly in another person or persons makes you anxious, knowing, presumably that people ARE no less broken that you and me. Indeed since YOU have CBT knowledge and Meditation YOU may be a beneficiary to them -- just like if you knew how to treat blindness in a town most were blind. Won't YOU WANT TO help THEM?

I ask u this because we ALL are good/pretty good at Something and therefore we ALL benefit when we SHARE our unique gifts. I'm saying this bc I believe And practice this view of humanity.

And that can also give us JOY in our otherwise very routine life. I hope u did your walking and Pilates finding joy as this is central to all movement that we learnt as toddlers, without a pediatrician telling us to stand up much less run and jump and climb.

I look forward to your post. All Best!

Sleep on your left side with your head on wedged pillow like or tilt in your bed from with your right leg crossed angled it helps a lot whereas your esophagus is up and belly is down and acid is staying down where it saposed to be

My doctor asked me to eat baby food for a few weeks to stop the acid reflux problem.
It should help anyone with stomach acid problems.

What worked for me was also fasting eating more fruits and vegetables for fiber if you can fast and eat just right amounts of food that you really like and always have raw vegetables at hand like celery carrots romaine lettuce chew raw when you get chance and do the same with fruits stay on the low acid fruits make sure bananas are just ripe before after green and not after it turns yellewish brown that’s when it’s full sugar and acid to me it maybe different for others bananas can consepate some and not others

Hi
Long post.
I never answered this one.
After a few years of pilates and loving it, I had a brain aneurysm (subarachnoid) that occurred at the studio.

I do not remember much at all other when they asked if the could call my husband and would I like an ambulance. Then it’s blank pretty much for 10’days.
2 brain surgeries. 21 days in hospital. Had an amazing recover after 4.5 month started by power walks again, and every step filled with gratitude!!!
Then after 28 month I though I would try pilates again. And hello anxiety.

1.5 years since I went back and my anxiety is GAD or free floating. I can have it all day.

No one knows if it was going back to the studio?
My two car accidents? A trauma filled relationship
For 11 years. (Ended in 1994) LOTS of counseling.

All I know now it I want to be healthy!! I am tired… secondary illnesses and pain due to the brain gut highway.

I go to counselling weekly and learn something every week. I guess I want to repair faster. It takes time.

Since you are doing weekly counselling, given the incredibly heavy share of misfortune you've been thru, I wish you the best in your healing journey...especially in areas that you feel you Can exert more self-efficacy such as nutritious foods, something I follow, along with Pilates and other playful variety of activities... to help us achieve our life goals.
