Encephalomalacia, anyone?

Posted by tadams1129 @tadams1129, May 8, 2023

Mri results came back that I have stable encephalomalacia in the left frontal lobe. I had a benign tumor removed from my left frontal lobe in 2014. I’ve had checkup MRIs done often since then and have never had encephalomalacia mentioned. I assumed this would begin shortly after a brain surgery, showing on scans.

Has anyone else had brain surgery, then diagnosed with encephalomalacia later on? Has it progressed for you? Your similar experience is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My daughter had brain surgery and encephalomalacia appeared on her cerebellum right after surgery. A year later it has spread to the left side of her brain.

Hello, hopefully you still check in on this site. I am having all the symptoms you had, and my mri said encephalomalacia, they said due to a traumatic brain injury(which I have never had) Having a hard time getting my neurologist to diagnose me. Wondering if you were able to get a diagnosis?

Hello,

I have been having migraines since about April that last 3-4 days, chronic fatigue, memory problems that shouldn’t be there because I’m only 30. I had a closed brain fracture at the age of 4 years old, over 26 years ago. On a recent MRI that I had I was diagnosed with encephalomalacia in the frontal lobe of brain that spreaded bilaterally. Anyone know why this progresses? What makes it stop? Comparing it to the MRI from 2018 it was very minimal volume loss. Now it’s progressed to this diagnosis. Any have any similar symptoms? Please anything would help. Thank you

Hi, I had a craniotomy in 2013. Recent MRI showed encephalmalacia/gliosis. Dr in hospital told me it's serious and to talk to my neurologist. Neurologist said it's nothing more than scarring and not a big deal. Not sure what to believe.

Hi Krista,
Can’t answer your question but know how frustrating it is to have different people tell u different things. I had my neurologist at first visit say…can’t tell you for sure what brain mri means. The second visit he said don’t worry about it,after saying he would order another mri at some point. Crazy making
