Dizzy still after my liver transplant

Does anybody else feel light-headed and get very dizzy. I'm having to use a cane pretty wobbly. I had my transplant on August 22nd. Thought this would all go away by now. It's the same feeling I had before I had my transplant with my old liver. Please respond thanks everybody

The evaluation for a transplant is a strenuous process, isn't it? How are you holding up as caregiver?

Yes it is. We come back to Mayo again next week for the lung side of things. Hopefully that will go as well as the previous 3 trips down on the heart side.

My client also had kidney transplant recently and complains of lightheadedness. May I know how are you doing now? I hope lightheadedness and dizziness gone away.
What did you do about it?

Wondering how are you doing now?
My client had the same problem after transplant. he recently had kidney transplant 3 months ago. None of our doctors can explain and none of them can treat it too.
What did you do about it based on your experience? Thank you!

Jeeemv, you way that your client's transplant was about 3 months ago. Have they been dizzy since transplant or is this a new symptom? How has recovery been in general?

Hi, thanks for your reply. My client has this dizziness and imbalance pretransplant however immediately post transplant, maybe within 2 weeks after KT, his dizziness went away. After some time, it went back associated with lightheadedness . The lightheadedness was developed after KT. Now, he has problem ambulating due to these complains, risk for fall. Blood pressure is stable.

I still have occassional dizziness. Maybe have your doctor check your B12 levels? It's probably best to put your question to your transplant team. There may be some underlying factors or it could be simply your healing process. Don't forget your body has been put in a lot of stress.

@jeeeemv, My transplant was 14 years ago, and I don't recall dizziness being one of my early issues. However, I do remember that I was experiencing some dizziness related to blood pressure medication several years ago. I was taking BP meds prior to my transplant, and after transplant it (lisinopril) was adjusted as needed. With my BP borderline readings, my kidney NP added a 2nd med (Amlodipine). When I began experiencing dizziness, I contacted my local primary care doctor who suggested that I try taking the 2nd medication (Amlodipine) at bedtime instead of mornings. He also lowered the dose and the dizziness has gone away! My BP is steady, and I have not had any dizziness for several years.

-These meds are working well for me. I have a liver and kidney transplant (2009) and am taking Tacrolimus and Cellcept. I hope that your client is able to find a resolution to his dizziness. In the meantime, has he considered using a walker or cane so that he can e so that he doesn't fall?

Hi,
I suggested to use a cane for the meantime.
I'm not so sure if this episode is caused by his anti-rejection. He's taking Myfortic 360mg/tab 1 tab 3x a day and Prograf 1.5mg 2x a day.

One of our doctors told us that in time, this lightheadedness/dizziness will be gone as he recovers.

Now, I'm really puzzled what's the main cause of it.

You mentioned that Myfortic was recommended to you for a liver transplant.
As a post-liver transplant recipient, I was prescribed Cellcept and Tacrolimus for rejection.

Myfortic, according to my research, is exclusively for kidney transplant patients.

I investigated and discovered the following:

Is Myfortic synonymous with CellCept?

Myfortic (Mycophenolic acid):

Mycophenolic acid (Myfortic) and mycophenolate mofetil (Cellcept) are related but not identical. Both drugs are given twice a day and work to suppress the immune system in order to prevent rejection following a kidney transplant. They are not interchangeable since they are absorbed differently by the body.

I need to know a little more about this topic, so please share your thoughts.
