Micro Clots

Posted by leahodell @leahodell, Mar 1, 2023

Have any of the Long Covid members been involved in reviewing the concept of microclots, as an explanation for ongoing symptoms following infection with Covid 19?

I’ve heard that red light therapy helps w micro clots. I try to do 20 min per day. Don’t know how much it has helped me. But am getting better

Interesting. That was the first self-treatment I tried. My logic was that it is used for wound healing, and also sometimes stroke recovery and TBI. Since I've had this from spring 2020, I've had almost continous headaches and often feeling like my head is swollen. So it certainly has seemed like a brain injury for me.
2 months ago I started using the NIR+ red light on all sides and top of my head for a total of about 28 minutes. Within 24 hours head pressure was almost gone, 48 hours later headache was also gone. I was really shocked and very happy. If I slack off and don't use it at least 4 times per week, some of the head pressure and sometimes the headache will return.

My granddaughter just told me about red light therapy and I've been looking into it. Can you tell me what brand of red light therapy you have? There are so many I don't know which to buy.

Do you still feel it is helping you?

It definitely helps. There are also other benefits that might not be very meaningful for long-haulers, but could also be helpful, such as exercise recovery, mood improvement, skin enhancement, vision improvement, etc. These benefits are well researched.
This is the company I used, they have a small table top model that would be easy to use near head:

Thank you for posting pics. I’ve been having random mild to moderate itching without hives and I will scratch the area without thinking much about it. Hours later it looks like terrible bruising of some sort. Is that how microclots can feel?

July 18 2023 I had same both on my inner thighs came up 2 weeks after sports injury I’m very fit active I was intensively training the last two weeks of June and July 3. My left leg started to swell up and then July 4. I couldn’t even walk my inner knees to my thighs were so big they had no muscle. It was scary. I have been to 15 doctors to vascular‘s. No one thought anything about the pictures I showed them and I’m still not right the swelling continued on the left side, especially to numbing and tingling in my feet and my calves my forearm to my fingers.

I'm taking Standard Process brand Garlic supplement twice a day for micro clots in my feet and lower legs which are numb, achey, cold, very painful, and have pins and needles. I've only been taking for one week, but it seems to be helping. I was very skeptical as it doesn't sound like a cure for my severe symptoms, but it is definitely helping. I am also taking Biotics Research NAC (1 cap 3 times a day for a week, then twice a day for a week, now once a day), which helped my extreme fatigue, extreme all over heavy weighted feeling, brain fog, etc., but it didn't help my feet. added the garlic and now my feet are getting better. As with any supplement, google all of the side effects, thoroughly reading all information you can find on it, to make sure it is safe for you to take.

Hi, I also have the heavy rib pain and CT showed nothing. It was the first sign of pain, thought something was breaking my ribs at first, went to the ER in a full blown panic attack in November. No one has been able to explain this to me! Awful. It has gotten better, from excruciating to a range of fairly mild to pretty painful. Can't tolerate pressure on my back bc it affects my ribcage. Prayers for us both.

You might take a look at Nattokinase. It is derived from fermented soy beans. It’s natural and in a “can’t hurt” category I would say. I have it in pill form from my Naturopath doctor.
I’ve been taking it about a month now with the hope that IF I have microclots it might be helpful.
I can’t tell a difference, but I’ll continue with it for awhile.
There’s a lot of info if you google. It’s supposed to be beneficial for a variety of blood flow issues.

Hi, thank you, I've actually been taking Natto for a couple of weeks now! My pain has thankfully gotten a lot better over the last few months; I'm hoping this takes me to the finish line. Physical Therapy (Postural Restoration and cupping) and Low Dose Naltrexone for inflammation have helped a ton.

Glad you are feeling better. Nothing I have tried has helped my condition, but I continue to hope.

You are on the right track taking Nattokinase to help dissolve the micro-clots. I was taking it in pill form and it did nothing. The problem is the manufacturer of the supplement has to dry the Nattokinase into a powder to get into the pills. A temp of 176 or higher will kill it and all the benefits of dissolving the micro-clots.
There is a true story of a young Japanese man working at a lab in Chicago on developing blood thinners. On his break, he tried one natto bean on a blood clot and it dissolved the clot faster than any of the drugs that he was using.
Most Asian groceries have frozen natto in small packs. Freezing can have an impact, but it still may be helpful. I prefer using fresh natto.
During my long covid battle, I ordered fresh natto from Nyrture in Brooklyn. (This is the only source that I am aware of that has fresh natto in the US. They ship by air in ice packs for $23. The owner has a doctorate in micro-biology. ) It is $10 for 8 oz jars. I used it a couple times a week during my year long covid battle and noticed "roller coaster" improvement of a good day or two and than back to symptoms. (I had 24 jars over a year with "roller coaster" results.)
I have found that I need to have the fresh natto as first food in the morning EVERYDAY (about 1/4 to 1/3 cup) and have it COLD to protect it and add a good amount of olive oil for absorption. I do not add anything else that could inhibit absorption.
I now make my own natto using Nyrture as the starter. I make 1.5 cups of dry soy beans and it is enough for about 8 or 9 days. It is a two day process to allow the beans to ferment. I describe it as being half cook and half lab tech, but it is worth it for me. If anyone is interested in trying to make natto, I will be glad to post what I have learned.
Best wishes and keep battling.

Thank you for your reply.
I had wondered if the pill form was a waste of time. I read others who said only fresh was capable of helping. I think the issue with many of us is....if it isn’t pretty simple, we are physically not able to do the work. Even getting into Covid Clinics is nearly impossible.
I finally got an appointment to see the only doctor in my area that has a protocol for LC. It has been months, and my appointment is still three weeks away.
I wonder if my husband will have to carry me in for my appointment. I look back at the last year and a half, and I’m really not sure how I made it to the dozens of worthless appointments. (Yes, I know others have been on this road much longer). My heart really goes out to people who are facing this without a supportive family or network of friends.
Sites such as this fill in the gap a bit I guess.
Hopefully the test for microclots will become more available. I’m certainly going to ask about it at the LC clinic.
Good luck to everybody.
