May-Thurner syndrome (MTS)

Joined today. Wondering if anyone in this discussion group has been diagnosed with May Thurner Syndrome and have varicose veins along with acute and chronic venous stasis? If so, how are you dealing with the venous stasis in your legs? I’m struggling with this and hope someone else may be experiencing same or similar issues and will share what they are doing or experiencing.

Thank you so much for sharing your insights, @maddie3211.
Connect is an open community for everyone, regardless of where people receive treatment, and it is important that people know their options and can make choices.

However, because @ddbnewmexico wants information about seeking a second opinion at Mayo Clinic, I’d also like to mention that Mayo Clinic's Department of Cardiovascular Medicine is one of the largest and most comprehensive heart practices in the world. The cardiovascular team at all 3 Mayo Clinic campuses collaborates with experts in many specialties–which means that you're not just getting one opinion. Highly specialized experts are working together for you, and what might take weeks or months to accomplish elsewhere can typically be done in a matter of days at Mayo Clinic.

@maddie3211, may I ask if you would share more details about yourself? Did you have any symptoms prior to stent placement? I’ve also read that in-stent restonisis can often be a problem; do you suspect this could be the cause of the cramping and discomfort you are experiencing? I look forward to getting to know you better.

Hi everyone,
I have MTS and have three stents in my left Iliac. I want to mention that MTS was found on pelvic CT with with contrast. I have done all my work at UT southwestern in Dallas they are great. I have had large DVT's spanning the length of my left leg and into the groin prior to finding my MTS. Now I am good. I high recommend daily exercise pool or elliptical for at least 30min to help the post thrombotic syndrome. MTS can affect right, left, or both iliac. Hopes this helps, I am on plavix and lovenox for life. I am 32.

I was diagnosed with May Thurners Syndrome in Feb 2022 and just recently hand a venogram with 2 stents. My right IVC was 76% block and my left was 68% blocked. I wear my compression socks everyday and I am taking blood thinners for 30 days. I feel worse than I did before the procedure. My legs are still swelling, I have terrible shortness of breath, so much so, I can’t do stairs or walk through the grocery store. I am not over weight and I’m only 44. I get light headed and dizzy. Echo and stress test have been done. They say it’s normal but I feel terrible. I know something is not right. Has anyone else have this experience?

I was recently diagnosed with bilateral May Thurner Syndrome.
I did not expect to get diagnosed with anything since my goal was to have my extremely painful varicose veins taken care of, and was sent for a MRV since my Vascular surgeon was concerned about the swelling and me telling him about the constant pain I am having...
He did refer me to another specialist who he thought of knowing more about May Thurner Syndrome but I am not so sure about a statement that doctor has made that left me baffled...
I asked him about stenting me to help with the pain and he said he didn't think it would make a difference and he only suggests stenting if a blood clots occurred...he said once I have a blood clots he will stent me but for now he doesn't want to do anything about it.
He did encourage me to go ahead and have my varicose veins taken care of and said it would help with the pain...
I am going to have 8 procedures done this upcoming month to take care of the varicose veins but I still wonder if I should get a third opinion.
Does anyone on here have any experiences with May Thurner Syndrome and thoughts about this?
