Heart app with smart watch
Is there a Mayo Clinic app that I can use on my Apple Watch to monitor my heart and use for my fitness program? I thought I read about this in a Mayo ad on Facebook. If so do I have to ask my doctor for it?

@mpeters Well, I checked toe app store, nada. I checked Mayo Clinic site, nope. I looked on Mayo on Facebook, no luck. But, knowing Mayo's method of operating, I would say it is highly unlikely they would be advertising an app. And even more unlikely that they would endorse someone else's app on a commercial platform.
However, Apple Watch has a range of heart monitoring apps available for you to use.

In my experience, I do my own ECGs on the smart watch. If I see anything that looks odd to me, I mention it to my cardio at my visit and she checks the health app on my phone to find the ECG of concern. Of course, if something seems really very ODD, I would make an appointment. The ECG is really to check for Afib and if you haven't had it before but it shows up on an ECG, I suggest calling your cardio immediately.
@mpeters, Mayo Clinic did have an app they created for an ECG Study for the Apple watch. It was a year long study and I participated in it but haven't seen any results but I did find a report that seems to be the result of the study.

Thank you so much for this information. I wonder if I can join the study now? I will ask my doctor if I can get the app. Thanks again, very helpful and interesting.
I believe they were trying to enroll people in a study using the Mayo app.

Which Apple Smartwatch is most people using.
Thank you.
I had an Apple iWatch Series 4 that I used when I was part of the Mayo ECG study. Here's a link to the study for more information - https://www.mayo.edu/research/clinical-trials/cls-20516793.
If an Apple watch is what you have, then by all means continue to use it...IF...the model is capable of reading subcutaneously for ECG. However, there are many other watches from other suppliers that do an excellent job of detecting AF and recording an ECG. Among them are the Galaxy Watch series from 3 on up. The Galaxy 4 and up can also take blood pressure measurements if that is of interest.
Very interesting. I didn’t know that any watch could take blood pressure. Food for thought, thank you so much for posting
