Has anyone looked into a class action law suit regarding Benzodiazepines?

No rehab or detox is effective for tapering benzodiazepines. You absolutely must taper very very slowly. No one could stay in rehab that long. Rehabs taper you off in 10 or so days. Don’t believe anything you read on the internet about rehab places that say they taper Benzos. It can take some people years to taper correctly depending on how long they’ve been on them and the dose they were on.

My doctor is taking me off them in August and replacing with soothing else

By then it willl be 8 months. He said I don’t need tapering if I am replacing?

Some can easily switch from one benzo to the next. I switched straight over from Xanax to Valium no problem. Some have a hard time doing a direct switch. You need to speak with your doctor about this before the switch. The majority of these doctors don’t have a good grasp on how to taper Benzos or antidepressants.

Google Ashton Manual. It’s all right there on the internet. Read all of it. If you have a printer, print it out and tell your doctor that this is what you want to do. It’s the best tapering method out there right now.

You can get the Ashton Manuals if you search on Google..if you have a printer then you can get a copy for your doctor…I haven’t done this yet but I’m hear from other people that it’s very helpful and apparently we don’t really have a lot of options..I think this is more for those of us who have been on them for years.

To Sears, I just wanted to ask you..do I have to switch to Valium first to do the taper or can you stay on Ativan…I think my doctor said that Valium has a shorter effect than Ativan but I am getting mixed messages.

You really need to switch to Valium. Valium has a much longer half than Ativan. As I say over and over, the vast majority of doctors do not have the first clue how to taper Benzos or antidepressants. You have to take control of the situation.
