Meditation for anxiety
I recently took a course in transcendental meditation and have been practicing for 3 months. It certainly has helped me calm my mind and body. Has anyone else tried meditation for anxiety with success?

After having a pacemaker procedure, I felt anxious and anxiety every moment it seemed. I was in the hospital for ablation and then the next day my weak pulse left no choice but to have the procedure. I was scared and just couldn’t breathe, one doctor told me about the headspace app, and it wasn’t a quick fix but after my first week I was really seeing a difference in my anxiety level. I use it everyday and is part of my daily routine to use the meditation clips and walk throughs. It has helped so much and I look forward to each days exercises.
That’s good news! I have heard that anesthesia can cause anxiety.

Certainly, I’ve been using the headspace app. It starts as a 7 day trial or 30 depending on how you want to set it up. I was told by my doctor about it. It really works, and it’s really informative on how to do each exercise with a “coach” and is guiding you in each exercise. It’s really helped me with anxiety. It also has different sections on different things stress, anxiety, learning how to cope and manage each. It will give you different exercises each day with a sleep cast to listen to at bedtime.

I have been doing transcendental meditation for a long while. Since the beginning of the 70s when it first became popular. It does work!! However, like most things you need to keep it up. If you stop - take a break - or stop for awhile. Just start meditating again.
I agree, meditation and breathing really help with anxiety. I try to do it every day as a preventative and when anxiety really hits, go right to relaxation, meditation and breathing.
I found going to a empty church and focusing on your self has help me tremendously. Being a Veteran the Chapel at VA Hospital is available 24 hours. It has help me being a Vietnam Veteran to focus on healthy thoughts.

Exactly, the more I participate the more I learn to focus on my breathing and I learned the out side noises that pull my attention or thoughts are normal, I just need to recognize it and go back focusing on my breathing. I’m no master but I’m learning every day. And also you get out of it what you put into it. The discipline is a reward in itself.
Hi there @mitfit. I also find meditation very helpful. Last night I decided to count my breaths to myself. Then, I gradually slowed the count down and my breathing responded. Kind of like gently petting your dog or cat when it is upset about something. Just a little hint.
