Hi @loveylouise, Tina. What a lovely picture of you. I hope you'll add it to your profile.

Have you had surgery yet? How are you doing?

Hello! My name is Tamie and I live in Eau Claire, WI. I am almost 56 years old and am a retired home school and substitute teacher. Ten years ago, I had a Sleeve Gastrectomy and lost 90 pounds! I felt great, but was unable to reach my weight loss goal of 135 pounds. Unfortunately, during the past 5-6 years, I have gained back 40 of the 90 pounds that I had lost. So, now I need to lose 85 pounds to reach my goal! Fortunately, I have been approved for a second bariatric surgery and am considering getting the Gastric Bypass (Royx-En-Y.) Since I did lose 90 pounds before with the Sleeve, I am considering this as well. I am looking forward to participating in this group, as I didn't have this type of support 10 years ago when I had my initial surgery!

Welcome @turberg. There are a few discussions in the group about weight gain after initial loss, for example:
- Weight Gain after Weight Loss Surgery. Let's support each other https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/weight-gain-regain-after-weight-loss-surgery/
- How successful where you after bariatric surgery? https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/how-successful-where-you-after-sugery/

Two steps forward and one step back is still moving forwards, right? What motivates you to reach your goal?

Hi Everyone!

My name is Liz, I live in Northwest Florida (Destin) on the beautiful emerald coast. I am traveling to Mayo in Jacksonville for my surgery in September with Dr. Bowers to fix a failing nissen fundoplication by doing a bypass.

Excited and nervous. Hoping to find new friends here close by for support and friendship.

Thank you for the welcome! I will check out those discussions. I am personally motivated to lose weight for my health. This year I will turn 56 years old...the same age my mother was when she passed away 19 years ago. I want to be healthy and strong so I can live a longer life with my husband and chidren.

Hello, my name is Stacie. Currently reside in Wisconsin. I have 4 dogs and just got a kitten.
I have my consultation tomorrow, so I'm brand new to this. I've never had surgery before either.
My current weight is 285 lbs and when I moved here 7 years ago I was between 170-175. The weight gain is recent, within the last 3 years. I do have depression and anxiety so I'm sure that takes a toll. I love taking photos, it's like a quick little memory. But now I refuse to have photos of myself. I have a great support system and great friends who I know don't care. Yet I'm the one who feels this way and avoids being seen. My goal is to get back to where I was when I moved here and stay there. I've cut out most everything I enjoy except my morning coffee. That will be the hardest part for me cause I live for coffee. I feel I'm ready to do what's necessary to meet my goals but I know I'll have questions. I look forward to being able to chat in the future.

Had Roux-en-Y in August 2020. Have had severe nausea & vomiting since. Have had n/v issue since 2007 when I was hospitalized for dehydration & the n/v never resolved & has been much worse since my surgery. I take Zofran 8 mg 2-4 times a day. It was 4 mg 4 times a day prior to the surgery.
I also have debilitating fatigue. On blood thinners for atrial fib & am having a Watchman procedure 7.12.23 & the blood thinners will be discontinued.
I dont know if the extreme fatigue is related to the gastric surgery or the blood thinner medication. Or if they're related at all. I need sleep more than anything though.
Since my gastric bypass I have developed gastric paresis. That explains some of the n/v. The diet w/the gastric paresis is very difficult to reconcile w/a post gastric bypass surgery diet. For instance, the dietitian told me that the Cheezits & potato chips which seem to go down easy are ok. It seems that anything w/o nutritional value goes down easily. I had to give up my daily salads which about killed me bc I love salads. Before surgery, you never would have guessed that salad was an everyday staple of my diet but it was. People don't associate salads & fat people at all. They just assume you're shoveling sweets & fats down your throat. I can eat a meal one day but the next, can only be a bite or two & cannot eat it for that moment. It's been very difficult finding what works & what doesn't bc it's ok one day but not the next.
