What you are experiencing is the post-ablation "blanking period" which can last up to several months and is described in the book "The AFIB Cure" but probably on many other places on line. Understanding it might ease your anxiety, but as a patient myself, I fully understand how you feel. Good Luck
I had an ablation along with heart valve repair just over a year ago. So far so good, no more AFIB. My heart rate and blood pressure numbers are very good too. I am 79 years old. I take only 12.5 mg of metoprolol and a baby aspirin once a day. So things can go well. A great surgeon of course helps immensely. Mine was Dr. Boulton of WakeMed in Raleigh North carolina.
I just had my 2nd one 5 days ago. So far so good. My first one was 3 years ago. Dr. Said if this doesn’t work I will need a pacemaker. Hopefully this one will last.
Diane, was there any mention of a time line between ablations that would maybe guarantee more success? My first ablation was approximately 3 years ago , I’m wondering if I’m still a candidate for a second ablation, I heard that after several years , a second ablation is not an option . This must not be true bc yours were several years apart. Good luck to you . You’ll be in my positive thoughts. ♥️

I was never told that. My friend had his 2nd ablation two years apart. He’s doing great. Mine was three years apart. I feel so much better. The longer you wait I’m sure the worse your heart will get. Just my opinion. If you need another one I wouldn’t put it off. Good luck and prayers to you.

My second ablation went so well this past Thursday, It was totally different from my first ablation. I love my new doctor who is so positive and easy to communicate with. They found gaps from my first ablation and several areas that were not addressed. He was very pleased with the procedure.
I have so much energy this time around but know to watch myself. I just took a short walk outside and will do it again at the end of the day.
The Lord was surely watching over me during my ablation and the change of doctors had to be his idea!

I'm so happy for you! It's over and you feel great-that's super. I have my 2nd ablation scheduled for June 30th. I had my 1st in Aug of 21. I was relieved to my whole life back. Hearing about the ablation procedure in the Dr's office was a lot to take in the 1st time. Then all the tests and MRI etc...I was so scared I almost did not go through with it. I'm so glad I changed my mindset completely and blocked the fear and chose to only look forward.
I remember during that office visit my Dr saying that a 2nd one is a possibility- but at that time I was hardly listening to that and just dealing with the facts and what to expect to my 1st one.
Currently I am dealing with each day now until June 30th... I just took the diltiazem 1/2 hour ago as I was instructed to do if the AF lasts over 30 mins with HR over 100. That is the worst part of AF-the unpredictability of when and how it effects your schedule. It is difficult to live your life around your AF. The best wishes for you. Take it easy and go back to enjoying your life.

Well, I spoke too soon. My second ablation was on Thursday and I wrote that I felt wonderful. This past weekend I started a slow short walk and all was well. My heart was silent and I had no symptoms.
I went for a short walk on Monday morning and came home, sat in a chair and ate lunch, watched some t.v. All of a sudden my heart started racing. I took my blood pressure and it was 60 over 40 and my heartrate was at 125. Yes, I started to panic. I was home alone. I felt like I was going to pass out and I felt winded. My husband was 20 minutes away. I ended up calling 911 and spent Tuesday and Wednesday in the hospital. My doctor and team told me I am on the far end of normal as far as healing. Whatever that means. They said it was not abnormal to have these episodes for at least three months or longer. I did not experience this the first time around. I am also having a problem bending down and feeling lightheaded. No one seems to be concerned.
I feel so sad and also panicky when it happens. It's frightening. I cannot get in a car and drive and for right now I am afraid to be alone. The episodes are short. Can anyone tell me if they had this experience? My doctors say that the symptoms will gradually go away and take deep breaths, relax but it is still very scary and I don't want to call 911 again when I am alone. I am a little bit lost.
Can you help me feel better emotionally about this?
