<p><strong> </strong>Femur stiffness after a fracture</p><p>I fell on a hip replacement and fractured my femur in 2019. I recovered ok but my leg is now very stiff. Hard to get up and down off the floor. I am wondering if I can ever regain my former strength and mobility?</p>
Hi John, yes it is my first hip replacement although I had both hips done in August 2020. I was doing fine until a few days ago I started getting strong pains in the groan and legs it has eased off a little in the last couple of days but I hope its nothing serious. Thanks

May I ask how long after you fractured your femur, were you able to resume physical therapy?
@lbosrig Just noticed your post about hip pain after replacement. I had both hips replaced, and my first side was a breeze. After the initial pain from surgery faded I could dance for joy as pain free. A year later I had the right side done expecting the same outcome. Unfortunately I was in for a depressing time of continual pain after surgery. At 6 months the pain seemed worse than pre surgery. I got no place with the surgeon in MI so, to make a long story short, 30 months after surgery I saw an orthopedic surgeon at Mayo who gave me an injection. It helped for 4 months so I made another appointment with her which was delayed two months due to COVID. When I saw her in July, she had made arrangements for me to have a guided injection done by a pain doctor. Five months after and I am still pain free. I am hoping that some way the pain will not find it's way back to me. It sounds like it may be to soon for you to get worried about it. Try to think positive! I am an example of worrying getting me nowhere, and I did find someone who listened to me at Mayo!
Hello! I am just wondering where exactly you were injected? I’ve been in pain for about 3 years. I’ve had 2 hip replacements. I went to an ortho surgeon who injected my bursa and so far so good. I’d had the same injection 2 times prior with no results. Everyone focused on my back and I was set to have a spinal cord stimulator implanted but tried this fella one last time and like I said, so far so good. Fingers crossed we will both remain pain free!!
How long after surgery did this pain begin? If you were asked to point to the source of the pain, would it be the psoas and not the hip? Just curious because I went down the psoas path for six months with my surgeon, even got an injection in the tendon, so painful. Long story short, two years after my left THR, my second opinion surgeon suggested I had some type of sports hernia, which is the hardest to diagnose. He was right, I had two. I even remembered when I got them, it was in PT four weeks after surgery when my over aggressive therapist had me doing straight leg lifts. I had a sudden pain in the psoas region and never did PT again, couldn't. I was never told it could be a hernia, I just suffered in frustration. I'm doing pretty good now, hernia repaired last spring. Still have problems from time to time, can't over due it. When I say problems I mean some thigh and stem pain.
It has been constant. I have been in therapy 4 different times over 28 months and it’s not getting any better. That’s why I requested a second opinion and my surgeon said he wasn’t worried. I have been telling him every office visit how my leg felt and his reply was I do great work after looking at my ex rays. Frustrating!! After the injection the inflammation subsided but now it is a pain related. That’s when the new doctor ordered the MRI because the psoas muscle starts at the lower spin. He thinks it could be related to my issues. My 1st doctor told me that I will be back installing flooring in no time after surgery. I have done everything thing he has told me to do riding my bike working out in my pool and walking with no reilf .

May I ask how long after you fractured your femur, were you able to resume physical therapy?
I was able to start physical therapy in a limited fashion shorty after the break a with a stay in a rehab facility for 2 weeks. PT then came to my house for an additional 2 weeks. I am able to walk without a problem although if I sit too long my leg gets very stiff. I had to have a rod put in my femur to stabilize it So now I have double hip replacements AND a femur rod. I just can't seem to get any strength back in my femur. So I am thinking if I get a stationary bike to use every day that it might help.
Yes I am having sharp pain in my thigh 14weeks after partial hip replacement.but no pain at all in the hip.my surgeon seems to think it's nerve issues related to my tendons.he prescribed over the counter Non steroid anti inflammatory medication that has helped,but am so scared because health care in my country still lacks behind when it comes to issues like this.Also will like to know if there are better treatments and alternatives out there because I don't want to experience it again.God bless

If in addition to the pain, the leg becomes hot, red, swollen or tender to touch, it should be carefully checked to be sure a blood colt has not formed, but that is rare.
