A pet is always a great addition - provided of course it can be properly taken care of. Ours are of course a load of work but they also keep us busy, entertained and less lonely.

I take pride in the fact that l still recognize them by their "voices" and know who's calling😸😺 I'm not a spring chicken anymore, neither is my husband for that matter, so we sometimes forget or confuse their names but we still know who's who😉😸🪻

You are so correct about wondering what the kitties think of us! When I’m taking out my frustrations by yelling at the TV news, mine just look at me like “Really?? You think you have it bad?? You forgot to change my litter”. Those books were written by a 90 year old therapist from CA who also does PTSD counseling for the military. She was taken to Auschwitz at age 16 and survived. How she overcame this and the story of what followed is - don’t know the word to use. The second book is just her pure wisdom, page after page. Give it a try. There is something there for all of us about overcoming the prisons of our minds. I pray your day reveals many blessings!

@bigmaya Very interesting that you can hear (detect) the different sounds of the cat voices. I know each cat has his own personality, but never noticed different voices. Maybe our cats didn't talk that much 🙁 Anyway, the main thing is that you know them and they know you. You are blessed for taking care of these beautiful creatures, who are too often subject to abuse by ignorant people.

Hello all, I'm in a few groups and am relatively new to all of this but just knowing that it's here automatically changed my outlook on so many things..every single one for the better. I recently went to meet with my transplant team and I think they were surprised at how high spirited I was.

This was a lovely idea; Thank you to who started it and I've enjoyed every post..
Once upon a time there was a seven yea...My mom brought a cat home as (pest control), the cat ate what we ate, no litter, came and went as it pleased (hurt, scraped up), every neighborhood dog and I suspect their owners feared this male cat who looked just like "Morris The Cat". My siblings and I saved and combined all of our change and bough him a can of "real cat food" (we were so poor we didn't know it, my mother would have killed us dead for feeding an animal).

So the big day came, my mom left for work, and we snuck to the store (our neighbors had orders to report our every move), bought a can of Purina/whatever was on commercials in the mid 80's. We put it in a saucer (another offense punishable by death-my mother was painfully strict, but never abusive). We were soooooo excited, we all gathered around the cat and the saucer and he REFUSED TO EAT IT !! Under no circumstances would that cat even sit near it, and we quickly realized that he was not our pet, he was not there for pest control either because that job had been taken care of in the first month he took over the property AND I think just to let us know he did not want to have said discussuion again...For the first time in the year and change we had him, he scratched whoever wasn't smart enough to take his no seriously, pooped in the house!! on my sister's bed!!! (a lot & soft & runny), and took off for 2 days.

I still love that cat, I was inconsolable when he died but I sat right by his side. Life is full of tragic, hilarious little things and thankfully they happen every single day. Sometimes I feel awful and drag my horrible looking self outside and a dog or a sound makes me smile and its enough for that day. I should be horribly depressed, on at least 10 meds & crying at least once weekly if not daily...not even due to the illnesses...but...says who.....instead I'll laugh because cats aren't pretentious and thank goodness humans beings don't have cat tempers.

I looked into Edith Eger's books and she really has an impressive life. She was, despite all the horror, among the blessed ones... not only to survive hell and make it but to have had a loving and emotionally nurturing childhood. I might sound preposterous but the fact that she was loved and wanted as a child gave her the necessary tools to recover and start anew.

Bigmaya, How precious! I have a spoiled rotten 9 year old Nebelung cat. We adore him. He is spunky and very vocal. We jokingly say he has used up 2 of his nine lives. He got stuck in the Christmas tree lights when he was younger and we had to cut the lights to get him out. He sat down on a tomcat sticky trap for bugs that I had well hidden (I thought) and came flying through the house with it stuck to his rear end. My favorite book is the Bible as I am a born again Christian. I love many other books as well. I just read "Blank Canvas" by Marcy Gregg and "12 Ways your Phone is Changing You" by Tony Reinke....These two are excellent books. I love to cook and the crockpot is my best friend in the kitchen. A bit like Mainecoons??? May you enjoy him many more years. As for reading, it's been weeks since l last really READ something. My head is always with my husband and this maledite illness. I looked into Edith Eger's life story, l think Baa had suggested her here. Edith is 95 and still going strong!!! But as l said, l can't concentrate.

Speaking of cats, l leave bowls with fresh food before l leave for all of them and when l come back in the evening the food has been hardly touched... and people think "animals" don't feel!!! I hate when mean evil people are called animals - no animal does what humans are capable of.
