Did I stop growing?
I’m 14 years old and have been 5’6 for about a few months now and I’m not sure if I should be worried or not. I hit my first growth spurt back in 4th grade when I was 4’9 and grew, by the time I was in 6th grade I was 5’1 . Then 7th grade came and I grew 5 more inches. By the time the pandemic started I was 5’6. I started 8th grade and finished 8th grade (currently about to go to 9th) and still haven’t grown a single inch. The doctor says I have a lot of testosterone and should be exercising more so I did but no signs of growth yet. Is there a certain exercise or medication or any remedies I can take to increase my height or maximize it?

Thank you for your help.My favourite sports is running.I have breast development when I was 11.5 years old .Sometimes I feel inferior as my other classmates are taller than me .I am trying not to focus on my thoughts of growing as I don’t want to affect my academic performance.May I ask if I gain weight by consuming healthy fats like whole milk is the most fastest or effective way to balance my hormones ?Thank you
I honestly don’t know the answer to your question about what will help your body to ‘get going on the developmental’ track. But I do know that a healthy, well balanced diet with ‘good fats’ and also low in sugar is important.
I’m posting a few sites on hormone balancing foods below so you can see where these fit into your diet. Again, I don’t know if this will help regulate your hormones and get your cycle started…but it won’t hurt to try. That would be something to discuss in the future with your doctor.
Here are a couple of sites for you to read through. Make sure you talk this over with your mom too.

Being a teenager will be of the most difficult times of your life. I’m in my late 60s and I can honestly say, no other era in my life has been as tumultuous with all the stresses of grades, self image, fitting in, worrying about the future… So I empathize with you right now. I always felt inferior in school too! Mostly because I was short. I’d written this in my previous reply to you, but once I got out of school, I realized height didn’t matter one little bit!
There’s a level of insecurity we can have in school when we’re always feeling judged by our peers. Once you’re out of that setting, it gets easier.
I learned too late in life that I had no reason to feel ashamed or insecure. I have every right to be on this planet. No one can make me feel bad about myself…and the same applies to you! That’s something we allow to happen. If we let the opinions of others impact our thoughts, then we end up telling ourselves stories that aren’t true. The more we do that, the worse we feel about ourselves.
I’d like to encourage you to see a different view of yourself. Not as someone who is short but as someone intelligent, athletic, kind, who takes good care of herself, is concerned about getting good grades and being an excellent student.
In reality, there aren’t many actual downsides to being short.
Not being tall won’t impact your job, getting a life mate or much of anything really. (Though I do need a step stool in the kitchen for things on high shelves.)
Clothing used to be an issue when I was young because there were no petite sizes…everything hung on me! Now, there are so many people in the world who are the same height as you (and me) that Petite clothing sizes are the norm! So that should tell you something right there. ☺️
But you may not be done growing yet so stay positive, ok?
Ok thank you 🙏 I am feeling better now😊
Hi I’m 19 years old (M) 5’10, my dad has shrunk as he is approaching his 50’s standing at borderline 5’10 when he used to be a strong 5’10 to 5’11 my mom is 5’4 I started puberty late at around 16 and have read men can grow until they are up to 22 years of age I’ve been a picky eater most of my life but as of the past year I have started to eat better, get more sleep, drink milk again. I haven’t tracked my growth closely but I haven’t grown a significant amount since late last year I would like to be a little taller reaching my uncle at 6 foot, does it sound like I’m still growing?
I’d like to also add my uncle was just like me a late bloomer though he was on the heavier side and I’m on the skinny side he didn’t hit his max height of 6-6’1 until after high school around 19-20

Welcome to Mayo Connect!
First I want to say how impressed I am that you are taking good care of your body with a healthier diet and improved sleep.
5’10”” is a good height at this stage of your late onset puberty- also considering your parents’ adult heights.
You probably will continue a slow growth still- it is difficult to be specific.
The most accurate prediction can be offered by Pediatric Endocrinologists. They often do an X-ray of a wrist to see if the growth plates are closed or not. They also calculate your final growth by looking at your family as a whole.
We always like when we get updates from our members- even if it’s in a year or more!
Very much appreciate the kinds words and information, will definitely continue to update!
I'm 15 & haven't grown in 5 months. Am I done growing? I'm a male and I just turned 15 yesterday. I am 5'7. My dad is 6'0. My mom is 5'4. My brother is 5'11. I exercise frequently, eat fairly well, and I get decent sleep. I have not grown AT ALL (not even a millimeter) in 5 months. I am very worried that I'm done growing. Although I am ever so slightly higher than the WHO average height (50th percentile) for 15.0 year olds, the fact that I haven't grown in 5 months concerns me.
Hello @craigbonoclento and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. This sounds like a concern for you so I will start by saying that everyone grows at slightly different timing. While the average age that boys stop growing is 16, I can tell you that in my own family, there have been multiple males who have grown through age 18. My own son grew significantly throughout age 15 and is still growing, albeit at a slower pace while 16.
Also, you will notice I have moved your post into an existing discussion on this topic which you can find here:

Members @vamp14 @yofy @jaymirwilsonn have all joined and shared your concern so would like to see if they can come back and give an update on their experience.
You can consult with your doctor at your next well-child check to see if they can offer any additional feedback given your particular information. Have you had a recent well-child exam?
To those hoping to grow more or less, don't give up hope because growth is so individual. My mother was 5' 7" and my father was 6' 0". My two brothers ended up 5' 10" and 6' 5". Both stopped growing around 19. The one that was 5' 10" was always the smallest kid in his class (but the best athlete) and several inches shorter than me for years even though he was 2.5 years older. When he was 14, he was only 4' 10". He said he used to pray that he would at least make it to 5' 0". Suddenly in high school he just started taking off and grew another foot in just 4-5 years. The day he outgrew me, his little sister, was the best day of his life. I was so happy for him.
I'm female and when I was 11, I was the tallest girl in my class at 5' 3". There was one other girl that was 5' 3". When I ran into her in college, she was still 5' 3" and I was 5' 8.5". I was so surprised, but then I remembered she was the only girl in 5th grade that really needed a bra so I guess she just matured and grew up early.
So this was my growth by age:
11 - 5' 3"
13 - 5' 6"
14 - 5' 8"
15 - 5' 8.5"
My cousin who was the same age as me and always 2" shorter suddenly passed me up. She was 5' 6" at 14 and 5' 9.5" at 15.
Some people just grow faster than others. My son was always the tallest kid in his class and ended up 6' 3" when he stopped growing at 18 or 19. Again, I'm 5' 8.5" and his dad is 5' 9". So you just never know. Stay healthy, get lots of sleep, eat well, exercise reasonably and you'll fish your wish! But also remember that height doesn't define who you are so be happy however tall you end up. 🙂 My brothers were 7" apart and one was just as successful and happy as the other.
