I had THR 2 weeks ago. I too am in good shape and active. PT has been an ongoing blessing where they can challenge me and advise me on some of the issues with my form walking and exercising. I like to be pushed and challenged so this works well for me. I still have pain in various areas but find with exercising and walking the pain decreases.

@scottb32 , Be cautious of PT around the 4 week mark... If they ask you to perform Lateral straight leg raises, this exercise messed me up and I haven't been able to do PT since, I'm 5 months. I've since learned that this exercise is not necessary and should not have been asked of me so early in recovery, or even at all.
@ittybit2016 , I'm sorry for what you are going through. I so hope your situation continues to improve and you can live comfortably without more surgery.

I am now almost six months THR - anterior. I had some excruciating front thigh pain for about one month. I posted on this portal and had many many replies and I am feeling quite bad for what some people are going through. My pain is gone but find it takes me a bit to get going once I have been sitting for any amount of time. But once I get up and moving I am golden. I hope and pray that all of you with difficulties can find some relief. My surgeon, in my opinion, is the best and it was through a cancellation and being in the right place at the right time that he took me on as his patient. Fingers crossed that all continues! Merry Christmas and all the best in 2019!!

Husbands replacement gives sharp thigh pain. Took more than a year for a second opinion ortho to discover that a bone spur had grown at base of implant. Hard to spot on Xray. Only seen at certain angle. Told repeat surgery would fix; but, it might regrow. Chose to live with it. Several years out he is ok for everyday walking; but, no long hikes. Just a possibility.

I am 13 months post right hip replacement surgery. Experiencing right thigh pain, frit and back, very weak, thought it may be a nerve, ligament damage. Reading other feedback, it could be muscle or bone spur damage. Waiting to see my surgeon for feedback.

Hi @eagles008 - Welcome to Connect! I think you are doing the right thing to go back to the surgeon for feedback. Glad you have read some of the other posts where members have had THR. Are you still doing PT? When is your appointment? I hope you will keep us posted.

Hi @johnboy2323 - First Welcome to Connect. I'm glad you came to this group - we have lots of caring people who share their experiences and support each other through all kinds of difficulties. I have not had a THR - my knees are my problem and I'm scheduled for a 2nd knee replacement next month. I'm going to tag some people who I think have had hip issues. Maybe @katepitt, @klouis, @beatricefay, or @mariemotte could share some insight about what they've dealt with. Is your pain sporadic or fairly constant? I'm also wondering if the doctor talked to you at all about pain management? I'm wishing you the vert best outcome. It must be terribly frustrating to still be having pain 3 years later.

Yes I have the sharp pain in my left thigh that you are talking about. I too wished I knew what it was. It is unclear. I am coming up to 1 year on my left hip replacement in July. I just had my right hip replaced in May 2018. My left hip pain started right away. I just thought it was normal but I know it is not because my right hip has no pain what's so ever. The pain I feel is a jolt or a shock in my left thigh daily. If anyone knows what it is please tell me, because I want to know what I can do on my end to fix it. It is so annoying. I had both of my hips replaced at Mayo in Rochester,MN. I have Dr Robert Trousdale as my surgeon. He had done previous surgeries on my hips called PAO'S- Peri aceatabular Osteotomy. Not sure if that is the right spelling. In my eyes he is the best. I hope someone can give me some answers. Thanks

I have the same issue! I had a THR left leg on 3/9/15
The night after the surgery, I woke in the hospital with severe pain in my leg. Because I was already on pain meds there was nothing they could give me but what they were giving me was not helping the pain. I knew it was a cramp and asked for muscle relaxant. Finally my doc ordered it. The pain subsided after a short time.
My recovery went well and I was back to my activities in no time.
I was event free until I developed High Hamstring Tendonopthy in surgical leg. Sent to PT for this.
Shortly after completing PT I started getting severe cramps/charlie horse in my left thigh. My whole thigh was involved just like in the hospital. Pain so intense I could hardly move. This went on almost daily for 6 weeks. Went to emergency and they gave me muscle relaxer. Which helps.
Periodically and out of the blue, I will get sharp stabbing/cramping in my mid thigh which seems to radiated from the outside of my leg. It comes and goes quickly but the pain is so severe it can bring me to my knees.
I haven't gotten any answers. I just live with it; not happily though
I am probably looking at a right THR in the near future. I'm going to discuss this mystery cramp/ pain with my surgeon prior to replacement.
My thoughts about the pain are.....could it possibly be related to IT band irritation????
Just knowing there are others out there with similar problems confirms that it's not in my head.

I agree! I was on gabapentin for cervical spondylosis with neuropathy in left arm. I told dic no pain medication. They suggested gabapentin. I took it for short time...maybee a month. After reading side effects, I got off of it ASAP! I weaned myself off of it.
