@karon - if you do try the CBD oil, please let me know how it works out for you. They say it takes a while - it's not immediate. But I started using it last Monday for arthritis in my thumb. It was to the point that I was having trouble holding a glass. By Friday, I didn't even have much soreness in the thumb. I was amazed.
I tried the CBD oil for my very painful Rsd. There is no THC in the CBD oil anyone can purchase. I paid $75.00 for it and got no relief however the medical Marijuana has THC in it. It's the main component in Marijuana and is what gives some people relief from their pain. The bad part at least here in Florida is that it's government controlled and therefore very expensive. I have a friend who got it and it cost her a total of $700.00 just to get started. She gets a little relief but I'm not going to put out my whole monthly income for a maybe. Insurance doesn't cover the costs of any of this. Not even the Dr. Which she paid $275.00.im not saying it won't help you just telling you what it's like here. I wish you so much luck in finding a way to deal with your pain.
I had two steroid shots prior to total hip Replacment. You have to wait three months after your last injection before you can have replacment surgery. My understanding is the insurance company requires doctors and patients to try non surgical methods before they will authorize surgery. I went through about a years of pre-surgery treatments, and it was not pleasant. Hope your doing better now. I’ve had both hips replaced, and I can tell you the anterior approach is much easier to recover from than posterior approach.
Ha Ha, my surgeon didn't give an opinion either. I also have another appointment with a new ortho surgeon next week for a "first opinion". Here's to hoping we get some answers!
Just met with another Ortho doc for 'second opinion' on my post-op THR surgery. I learned quite a bit that my surgeon didn't tell me: 1) I have some detached muscles due to the type of procedure (lateral entry), 2) I have 2 screws holding the new socket in place! 3) My hip replacement leg is now 1/2" shorter than the other 4) My new hip is also a 1/2" further to the side than my other hip. All that said, the new Ortho doc thought I should continue my ART therapy and keep doing PT exercises. Prognosis is good for now, but need a follow-up in a couple of months.
@skitchymo that sounds like progress to me skitchymo! Must feel good to start getting some answers. Did the new Doc give a reason for the slow start up or thigh pain? Or is it a combination of the off measurements, leg and cup/socket? I had a consultation with my second opinion surgeon today. He has agreed to evaluate me and we start on Monday with another visit, I am hopeful.
Hi there! My doctor has ordered a CT scan for this afternoon to rule out a fracture where the implant is. He's also sending me for PT (which I did not have after surgery) for 4 weeks and wants me to go back to using my walker for two weeks to balance out the weight. Because I'm favoring my left leg, my hip on the right side is hurting and we don't want to risk anything happening to that. I should know the results of the CT scan tomorrow.
Hi Lynn, This sounds exactly what's happening to me! I'm 56 & had left THR 6 weeks ago. I was walking fine without cane & feeling great but 2 weeks ago after doing some shopping, I had such severe pain I couldn't walk or move without excruciating pain from my thigh down to my knee. It seemed to feel better after I rested it for a few days, but by the afternoon I can barley get up or down to seated position, let alone walk unassisted. I had my 6 week appt. & x-ray yesterday & surgeon saw nothing & didn't really tell me anything it could be at all. Now I'm scared! I was(am) very active & this is very depressing! I have had no PT & am on nothing but Advil for pain. My replacement is uncemented & done posterior. I'm wondering if the peg is loose or???? I was hoping that it would feel better once the bone grows in but now (after 2 weeks of this pain) & having my Dr. say he sees no problem, I'm really worried,

@khalt actually the second doc basically agreed that the healing will take time. Due to detached muscles and trauma related to the surgery. Same prognosis (so far), but based on much more information than I had received prior to this visit.

Hi @katepitt I’m a little surprised that you’ve had no PT. It should be part of your recovery. That said, your ortho surgeon doesn’t seem willing to speculate on the cause or treatment of your pain. I would recommend seeing another doc to try to get a more in-depth opinion. In my case, that was very beneficial.

Yes it is....anterior saved my life and got me up moving much faster than the other procedure.

Have had no sharp pain. Perhaps the new joint has broken loose?
