Extreme exhaustion after normal exertion?

Posted by dawniepoo @dawniepoo, May 1, 2023

I had Covid in October, and soon after developed symptoms in my G.I. tract, my joints, and experienced severe exhaustion after doing normal household tasks that would’ve never bothered me before. It’s so bad that I have to lay down and tell my husband I am “having a spell“. I’ve been to the doctor. My lungs are fine. My blood work is all good, and he has said by heart is fine . Had echocardiogram and, CAT scan and a myriad of tests. We all assume Long Covid ,PS I am 78 years old. It’s become debilitating for me since I am generally very active ,gardening, exercising, walking ,yoga. This has really aged me and I wonder if I will ever get my life back . wondering if anyone has any ideas or has similar experiences.

Hi - I've had Long Covid since August 2020 and I have gradually gotten better. Pacing is the best advice I've received. Start out only doing a few things a day with rest in between and gradually, if possible increase your activity. I'm 75 and previously, fit in all the activities you mention. I tend to overdo when I feel OK. If you're like me, you'll have setbacks and have to start over. Patience is a virtue in this battle. Take care!! Hugs to you.

Covid infection October 2021.
Extreme fatigue after light workout at Nautilus gym;ie, 15 minutes on stationary bike and a couple of arm machines leaves me exhausted for several or more days.
Eyes are so sensitive to light I have to stay indoors on sunny days and can only read for a few minutes because of the reflection of light off pages.
Help!
Doctors offer no solutions.
I am 85 years old and use to workout several times a week and read for hours.

I am long hauler, since Dec. 2020.
Sloooowly increasing activity, with set backs and migraines. Pacing is everything!
For lights, I use dark lens sunglasses seem to help. As far as reading, now I listen to audiobooks, a beautiful thing! Enjoy the story telling.

The fatigue is stunning, isn’t it! And it’s frustrating to have all the tests come back saying you’re fine. Many of us here have been in the same situation. I’ve had tests all over, and nothing. One thing I learned from my long haul clinic: figure out what signs your body sends you before you hit full fatigue ( blurring vision? Auditory or visual sensitivity? Dry mouth? ). If you can figure it out and stop as soon as you “hear” your body’s signals the fatigue won’t last as long. I hope this helps.

I understand. And then some days I’m fine. I think it’s improving little by little. You. ?

Hi all. May i just kindly add it seems from so many that even on “good” days pacing and minimal activity with weekly very gradual activity increase of any kind, like reading one more line or just one more rep of seated PT, to avoid set back. Healing to all🌈

I’m 67 and have long covid. Since COVID my story is about the same as yours and I also had severe sweats to the point of changing my nightwear 3-4 times each night. I’ve been negative for any newer serious problems except for running out of breath and having my heart pound out of my chest. I have a fib and a flutter, pacemaker and have had a heart attack and open heart surgery. I have been gaining weight fast and a crazy active appetite. I am acting like I’m 15-20 years older, my mood is being affected because I’m fat, fatigued, female and feeling uninterested in my life anymore.
