Extreme exhaustion after normal exertion?

Posted by dawniepoo @dawniepoo, May 1, 2023

I had Covid in October, and soon after developed symptoms in my G.I. tract, my joints, and experienced severe exhaustion after doing normal household tasks that would’ve never bothered me before. It’s so bad that I have to lay down and tell my husband I am “having a spell“. I’ve been to the doctor. My lungs are fine. My blood work is all good, and he has said by heart is fine . Had echocardiogram and, CAT scan and a myriad of tests. We all assume Long Covid ,PS I am 78 years old. It’s become debilitating for me since I am generally very active ,gardening, exercising, walking ,yoga. This has really aged me and I wonder if I will ever get my life back . wondering if anyone has any ideas or has similar experiences.

I’m 67 and have long covid. Since COVID my story is about the same as yours and I also had severe sweats to the point of changing my nightwear 3-4 times each night. I’ve been negative for any newer serious problems except for running out of breath and having my heart pound out of my chest. I have a fib and a flutter, pacemaker and have had a heart attack and open heart surgery. I have been gaining weight fast and a crazy active appetite. I am acting like I’m 15-20 years older, my mood is being affected because I’m fat, fatigued, female and feeling uninterested in my life anymore.

I found this article on a study out of Yale from February of 2022 that sheds some like on the fatigue after normal exercise. I wonder if they’ve done any further research?

Hi all - I’ve been posting as #britelite. I was a healthy 78 year old, traveling, swimming, gardening. Had COVID in February and it’s been one thing after another - mainly shortness of breath, heart irregularities and lightheaded. Had EKG & Holter monitoring last month and results were slightly abnormal but not alarming. Was supposed to have stress test in a couple of weeks but 2 days ago, symptoms really got worse. Was hesitant to go to ER again but went and found I was in complete heart block! Had pacemaker inserted yesterday and am feeling so much better. The doctors are hesitant to say COVID caused this - they just don’t know. I’m hoping this is the solution to my problems but I’m scared the covid is still lurking in my body and will manifest as some other crazy malady. So, just want to say, even if you’ve been to doctors and ER multiple times, when you feel crappy get yourself checked out. Warm wishes for better times to you all and pray there’s a cure out there for this soon.

I had covid in January of 2022. Had extremely high blood pressure where normally I had low blood pressure. Was in ICU for six days. Since this time I get very fatigued trying to do anything. I was very active prior to this. I was told by my cardiologist that it was covid related. I have been on meds since that time. Very frustrating for sure.

Hi 78! I'm with you - in age as well as GI, joint and exhaustion symptoms. I've had Long Covid for 16 months and only recently started to feel slight but significant improvement. I attribute it to undergoing extensive ( and expensive) specialized lab testing (thru Genova Diagnostics) which showed that my issues were gut symbiosis, mitochondria deficiency, and the spike protein. Working with a Functional Medicine practitioner, I have been taking supplements to address the deficiencies that led to these issues. She said these are common issues in Long Covid. I encourage you to find an experienced FM practitioner. Best wishes!

Even at 85 I feel like I'm "dogging-it" when I have to rest. Had Covid twice 20 and 23 never got back to normal and continuing pop-up new maladies. So each day is a blessing that I'm still up-right and alert even with forced resting. The biggest problem is vertigo/balance but--again a blessing I'm still here--

I had Covid last Sept. and am still experiencing times when I feel totally exhausted. I am 82 and although some of the tired feeling comes from age, when the feeling comes I need to stop and rest. Didn't have to do that before Covid. I am hopeful this will pass.
