Lost my ability to sleep and other serious issues
Hi everyone,
Here’s my story in hopes that someone can help me.
Prior to Nov 25 I was taking Lions Manes mushroom and on the 25th I smoked marijuana which gave me a panic attack. Now I believe I developed Central Sensitization syndrome (due to lions mane increasing NGF which can lead to CSS under the right circumstances) due to this because that night of the panic attack I was wide awake and up all night. Now it’s like my body and mind won’t shut off. There’s too much activity in my nervous system.
Since that night I haven’t been able to sleep more than 1-2 hours per night even with a benzo. The past week I haven’t slept at all. I’ve been to the hospital and they couldn’t help me. It’s like my brain won’t shut off and there’s too much activity in it. It physically feels like I’m drinking coffee hourly which I’m not. This has all been happening for over 2 months after supplementing with Lions Mane and then having marijuana.
I’m not sure if the Lions Mane mushroom daily for 2 weeks then taking marijuana that one day had an adverse reaction with each other or not, but ever since the morning after I haven’t been the same sleep wise among other issues. The other issues I’ve been experiencing are internal vibrations for the past month, twitches in my neck, legs, and hands, diahrrea every day, sore legs, and disorientation. The internal vibrations worry me that I may have a neurological disorder. I have an appointment with a neurologist in two weeks. The main issue is I’m not sleeping at all, it’s like I’ve lost that ability.
I feel somehow the Lions Mane and marijuana could had given me brain damage because after Nov 25 I haven’t been the same person. I don’t know how or if this is true but my life has been turned upside with all my symptoms.
Does anyone know whether I might have a serious issue or how I can further look into why it appears I’ve lost my ability to sleep?

I take it for neuropathy. It's for nerve conditions. At night before I go to sleep. Gabapentin doesn't have any worse side effects than a lot of familiar medication. Just because it says side effects doesn't mean you'll have any. I didn't have any. If it helps, take the capsule apart and just take half. I would take a piece of tissue or paper towel and plug the end before taking it. If I had no side effects from that, next time I took the whole thing. You can get them as low as 50mg I think. I have back issues and if I stand in one place too long, my thighs get numb. I'll wake during night and one of my thighs will be numb. Gabapentin is prescribed for a lot of different things.
One more question— does it put you to sleep?
It doesn't knock you out. To me it's like taking Tylenol PM or something. You can always go to good RX and put in medication and a whole list will come up. I do that if I get a new medication and want to see if there will be interaction with what I'm taking. It'll give you the good, the bad and the ugly so to speak but I don't consider there to be any bad, but everyone is different. I don't drink but that'll affect the way it works too. It might enhance it. When I recommended halfing the capsule that's really only to see if you can tell any difference in the way you feel. If, after about an hour, you feel the same then I'd take the rest. I really can't tell I took anything which is why a long time ago I started it and quit after about a week and told my doctor I couldn't tell any difference. He said no, start back taking it because it's doing its job. He said just because the medicine didn't affect me didn't mean it wasn't working. What mg is the gabapentin you have?
Hi Carol.. The neurologist prescribed 100mg capsules. She said to take one up to three at night. Any over the counter sleep aids don’t work at all including sominex, melatonin, Tylenol pm, Aleve pm and zzzquill. I am at my wits end..I want to thank you for all your advice.
Hi
Have you ever tried Melatonin? I have nocturnal seizures so it's very important that I don't become sleep deprived. I started to take 10 mg of Melatonin about an hour before I go to bed and it works a treat. It's a natural hormone so it's quite safe to take. I think most countries sell it over the counter - I have to buy mine on line as you need a script in Australia to buy it I think if everyone used it sleeping tablets would become redundent and the drug companies wouldn't like that.
Yes, I have tried it. My issue is the constant shocks, and now that the weather is getting warmer, sweats. It doesn’t matter what I’ve tried the night before, it’s been like this for decades, but getting worse. I’m going to look up nocturnal seizures, my oldest son has epilepsy, and we’ve talked that I might have something related. I’m exhausted all the time, I’ve changed diet to reduce calories, carbs. I’m overweight by 25 lbs, and so far I’ve lost 17lbs. Thank you for giving me another path to try.
Hi
I've also found that now I am waking up in a cold sweat but my doctor says it's because I'm doing that instead of having a seizure. My seizures are definately changing after having tonic clonic seizures back in the 90's.
Hope you get to the bottom of your problems.I was put on Keppra 23 years ago and it's changed my life!
Hey
I'm only 15 years old, but I believe that 1/4 of a teaspoon may have been an overdose. I did the math, and that is a little over 2 grams. If you were taking it daily, I think that could have possibly been a reason for your tremors? I will take up most of a gram per day. Though it has only been a month, I haven't felt any side effects. I have felt anything at all, to be honest with you. I really do think that It depends on the person whether you have benefits or side effects from the mushroom. I think all of us would benefit if we were to consult our doctors before supplementing a new substance. Myself included
Please be careful with melatonin!
It is poorly researched. It is a brain produced hormone. We don’t know it’s role in body functioning. It has a critical role in mammalian puberty.
The body produces @ 100 micrograms. A dose of 10 mg is 100 times more. That dose probably shuts down the body production.
It’s impact on sleep is probably a secondary effect. And is probably short term.
I have nocturnal seizures and this hormone seems to stop me having seizures so as far as I am concerned it works well it's a better choice then getting hooked on sleeping tablets
