Is Dr. Gundry and "leaky gut" a scam?

Well, I have been researching anything that can return my regular BM since my intestinal prolapse surgery in October and now I am becoming more than a little concerned. I also read Dr Gundry's excerpts from his book and I think he sounds like he just wants money from people. Not an expert as he calls himself. I don't know what to use anymore because nothing is really working.. Doctors have prescribe the Miralax, Lactulose, Bisacodyl, Phillips Milk of Magnesia (yuk) and other over the counter things- such a waste of money .... the list goes on... I was so desperate last week I bought one of those liquid enema apparatus kits.. but I felt it was too dangerous and that I may harm myself even further... my PCP suggested eating 2 Kiwi's Fruits and at least 64 ounces of warm lemon water per day.. Apparently Kiwi's are the new "Prunes" Yoga and different types of twisting exercises sometimes gets things moving a bit, but none of this gives me the relief that is needed to be normal. I am literally full of ___ !! Today I decided I am no longer eating because it is not being eliminated properly. I can't go on this way any longer.. Each doctor seems to be of no help. This is such a condition that is difficult and embarrassing to talk about, even to a gastrologist .. I don't know... I feel something is terrible wrong.. Please, does anyone have any have any other suggestions about what I can do this weekend? Thank you so much for any response 🙁

Sorry about you not being able to go.
I'm 60, this should work for you, as it does for me:
1. Organic psyllium Husk
- not the capsule stuff....see images on Google : Grape Tree Organic Psyllium Husk.
Just a spoonful or two is incredible! With some grub, of course. You can actually hear your guts bubbling , as the husk is pushing things through the gut!
2. Fast walk for about an hour....like you're in a hurry to catch a train .....because the gut operates better when you're exercising.
3. Eat all kinds of beans : black beans , heinz, butter beans, canelli beans , kidney beans .....avoid white bread, junk food etc etc.
- that's it, really.....in fact, it's so easy to do a number 2, that you have to stop taking it for a while, or else you keep going 2 or 3 times a day.
Good luck!
Oops! Forgot!
Do a poo squatting, our ancestors never used toilets ....we have their genes .,..you'll be amazed how quickly the waste comes out , compared with doing it on a seat!

😁

I've had many spine surgeries and on alot of opiates that constipated me…bad I learned over the years that Metamucil is the most affordable. I do a heaping tablespoon or so before bed with about 20 Oz of water…fast. then in the morning I take a pill my doc prescribed years ago.called symproic 0.2mg
Between my insurance and a coupon it's no charge ..for me. It causes your colon muscles to contract which makes it work with-in an hour…but I drink coffee to help it In The morning.
The more fresh veggies like celery and basic salad and less gluten the better.
I hope this helps in time… and remember drink lots (about a gallon)of water until normalized..you don't want to dig it out manually. 😱🤢💩

I’m in my 80’s and started to have a problem with constipation; didn’t want to have to take laxatives all the time. I have 1 cup of split pea soup every evening after dinner. I make it in my Instant pot or can use any pressure cooker for 15 min and natural steam release. It makes 12 servings. If I don’t have bm by noon next day I use a suppository. It works within minutes. Haven’t had any more problems. I use a 1 lb bag of peas that has other dried veggies in it (throw away the little bag of seasoning because of the sodium), 4 cups of vegetable broth, and 4 cups of water. Tastes really good and works great for me. There’s some good articles online about the nutritious value on this.

See a nutritionist/dietician in a GI. practice. I found one to be extremely helpful with supplements and meal plans. They are more knowledgeable about supplements and willing to suggest them alternatives as opposed to doctors, probably because of their orientation. I asked my GI doctor why he suggested pepto bismol over L-Glutamine when he was aware of (limited) research and he said because it wasn’t studied enough since there isn’t profit in supplement research. The nutritionist was also able to recommend specific brand which had been clinically studied, avoiding the hit or miss ingredient issue in unregulated supplements (think of the melatonin dosage problem with pills containing negligee amounts to amounts so high no one would recommend them). They were out of network, but the $100 visit was worth avoiding all the pitfalls.

I logged in here and finally found your question so I could reply to you. I felt badly because I’ve been going through exactly what you’re going through. forever. Forget Dr. Gundry‘s stuff. My doctor told me to try everything that you’ve tried and nothing worked for me until a week ago. It been two weeks and I had zero movement then I took Dulcolax Soft Chews mixed berry, stimulant free. It says take 2 to 4 of them so I took four because I was so uncomfortable, the first time I took them was about 6 o’clock at night and because I was so backed up it took a little while but then after about four hours and I mean everything emptied out. Every couple of days I take two of the chews and within 30 minutes to an hour all is right with the world. Trust me on this I was miserable and the last two weeks have been amazing. I spent so much money on his pills and the chews cost next to nothing. I have a feeling I just changed your life, you’re welcome lol I provided a picture of them below, take care.

When I was 45 I had a frontal x-ray for something, I don't remember, but my doctor laughing told me I was full of s__t.
I had a constipation problem for a long time. I tried a few "Colonics" and I now poop regularly. I am now 71 and can testify Colonics helped me.

I would suggest a high dose of Dulcolax. If that doesn't work then dynamite.

Hi Tabitha,
I hope you have resolved your problem by now, but just in case you haven't or for general good health, I highly recommend to drink a lot of warm water (about 4 glasses of water-one glass is about 160ml) first thing in the morning if you can wait for 45 minutes before you eat anything else. You can start it with 2 glasses if it's too hard. You can eat 45 minutes after drinking water. You will go to bathroom more often for the first 2-3 hours and then it will go back to normal frequency. I started it during a weekend when I don't have to go to work and I liked it. So I even adjusted my breakfast schedule- I drank water first and had a simple breakfast at the office to make sure to wait for 45 minutes. If you do it for 7-10 days, I believe you will start seeing the result. In my case, the constipation went away pretty quickly (though I'm pretty sure mine wasn't as bad as yours to begin with), my dry eye condition improved greatly from the day 1 (I don't have to use artificial tears regularly anymore) and my throat became more clear with little to no phlegm.
I'm copying a link below and you can google it. Some articles have exaggerations (like it's a cure-all) and some downplay the method, but if you do it moderately enough, drinking water in the morning is usually good. I usually skip the meal part (Each meal lasts only 15 minutes. Then wait at least 2 hours before eating or drinking anything else) because drinking a lot of water in the morning already changes your daily routine quite a lot and some articles don't mention the meal part at all. If you've already mastered the drinking part and want to do more, you might try...but I don't think it's necessary. Hope you will resolve your issues soon. Best luck!

(I initially put a link here).
Ok...it doesn't let me give you a link here saying I'm a new member and not eligible to post messages with links... so pls google it. The article I found for you was "How do Japanese people drink water?" from "vinmec" site, but you can just google warm water therapy as well.

What is the best drink for a colon cleanse?
Colon Cleanse Drink Recipes for a Healthy Gut - TUSHY
Pour 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar into the warm water. Stir in 2 tablespoons of raw honey into the warm water. Drink the mixture before bedtime. Expect a series of bowel movements the next day as waste and toxins are eliminated.
