Sounds sound robotic in left ear

Posted by kevin123 @kevin123, Nov 22, 2018

It's been a week since I got a cold. During this cold I've experienced some painful ear popping and fullness when I blow my nose. but I'm pretty sure it was my congestion causing this symptom. Since it's been a week now my ear has been ringing mainly noticable at night. Conversations or semi loud noises I can feel the sound waves in my ear like bass. I usually watch videos with earbuds and there aren't any problems it's when its night time I notice that videos with my ear buds sound robotic in my left ear. I don't have any pain nor the feeling of fullness. I do have some balancing issues when I put pressure to my head (like lifting something heavy and the blood goes up). I do feel I tiny bit of congestion but barely noticable when going through my day. Is this causes by the cold or?

Hi @kevin123, that does sound concerning. Have you been to see your primary care physician about the problems with your hearing and balance?

Hi Kevin
Sure wish I had a helpful suggestion for you but I can only recommend a visit to your doctor.
Hoping all turns out well.

Did you ask for a referral to an ENT?

Hi, I am currently having the exact same symptoms as you in my left ear following a long period of flu infection. I went to the doctor and they said it is just because of sinus congestion causing Eustachian tube spasms. But I am not convinced and the robotic sounds in my left ear are really causing me concern and getting worse. If you are comfortable sharing could you please provide me with an update of what happened in your case?

It seems you are not hearing the full range of tones you are used to. Have no idea why, whether it’s your cold, or your HA settings, or your hearing has changed. An ENT is probably best able to help you with this. Pronto.

Hi there Kevin, it’s been a while since you posted this but wondering if you ever found out what the issue was? I’m having similar symptoms and at this point it’s a guessing game. Thanks!

Did you happen to find out what the cause/issue was for you? Thanks

Following. I have been experiencing similar symptoms. Sharp pain in left ear lasting a minute or two, like something sharp and solid moved in there. Feelings of fullness, congestion, ringing and loud sounds echoing. I do have allergies and it’s pollen season, but this has been happening off and on since last July when I got a bad head cold. ENT says I have migraines. Getting a second opinion.
