Macular pucker after cataract surgery

I was wondering, if you posted about macular pucker because you are experiencing this or perhaps you know of someone else who has this problem? Did the problem result from a cataract surgery? Also, in what way is vision affected by macular pucker?

If you are comfortable sharing more, please do so. We may have other members who can share with you.

Hi, @neville - I wanted to let you know I moved your post to the Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat group so that you could meet others who may have experiences with cataract surgery.

I'd like to introduce you to @cherriann @mimigogo256 @peach414144 @jakedduck1 @hikergirl, who have talked about cataract surgery, who might have some insights on the macular pucker you've mentioned.

Presuming this is something you are experiencing personally or affecting someone close to you, I'm wondering if you could share more about the macular pucker? Is is causing blurry or distorted vision?

Thank you for caring. Was told I had a cataract in my only good eye which is my left eye. (My right eye I have amblyopia and noncorectional vision of 20-300 or 20-200 depending on which doctor says so,) I had no symptoms of any sight impairment but did what the doctor said to do and I had cataract surgery. After the cataract surgery was done and the bandage came off I immediately had great pain, blurriness, clouds and lower eye sight which has becoming worse as time goes bye. Even the colors are dimmer and am becoming color blind with the charts. But the bluriness is becoming worse as time goes bye. Help me please. I want to make an appointment but need to figure out transportation. I live alone. No family. This is quite frightening. Ohhh! The doctor gave me a card after the operation which says "interocular lens identification card. In case of emergency contact my physician. And there are many "precision series numbers following. numbers. Oh well, just another human being needing help who will appreciate all. Thank you. Peach

Hi @peach414144, my mom just had cataract surgery. Like you, she was told to call if she had any concerns. Your worsening symptoms are definitely worth calling your surgeon about, right away. There may be a simple reason or perhaps there is an underlying eye issue causing problems. You should find out. Please call your doctor and let us know what you find out.

Dear Colleen thank you and yes I did ask my doctor about this. The doctor (opthamalagist) would not address the issue. To just go along with his diagnosis. (The same goes for the second opthamalogist.) I am so sorry to say that here in Ocala, Florida it is very questionable. Called Mayo here in Jacksonville asked for an appointment and was told I should be diagnosed with an operable diagnosis first and then they can set up an opthamalogist surgeon. But I need to be properlyy diagnosed first, The stress continues to build up. Where can i go next?

I can understand your frustration at trying to get help. What did the ophthalmologist mean by "go along with the diagnosis"? What is the diagnosis?

Hello Colleen. Peach here: The doctor will not address anything but his diagnosis of gloucoma.. Whenever I try to he cuts me off. Oh, but I do remember the last time I saw him I asked why can we not replace the interocular lens that started this problem and he said that the risk of going blind is very high. I have obtained copies of my three visits to him and am prepared to fax them to Mayo. But without a diagnosis that would require surgery Mayo cannot help. Am sorry to say the doctors in my area do not have the experience , (As wrong as I may be.) Originally when this problem started the docrors told me I have macular degeneration, then they added gloucoma to it. Now they have taken away macular and I have sever dry eyes with glocoma. I was 20/20 with no clouds or loss of vision and no pain until Dr. Hunt removed the so called cataract. Right away, as soon as the bandages were removed. I am not looking to sue anyone I just want to be able to see. Hopefully this can be. Stressed, anxieties, but hopefully holding on. And realizing that perhaps
nothing can be done.. Must learn to live in a darker world but will continue to caress my pets. Oh, by the way my other eye has been mostly blind 20/300 since birth so this is why I am so concerned about this eye. Love to all Peach

Sorry for all the problems you have had, and understand your frustration. I had a multifocal lens put in my left eye a year during cataract surgery. I am now troubled with blurry vision and glare, and have decided not to have another multifocal lens put in when I have cataract surgery on my right eye. I understand your frustration in expecting to have better vision after surgery, and instead have worse vision. I also developed a secondary cataract in my left eye since the surgery, so that too, will need to be removed with laser treatment some time in the future. Removing the multifocal lens in my left eye and replacing with a standard lens carries multiple risks of even worse eye problems, so that option I have completely ruled out. Needless to say, I am a bit anxious and hesitant for the future procedures when first surgery was not successful.

I thank you so much for posting to me. But, my vision was perfect with no problems or pan. It was only when the doctor performed what he said was cataract surgery when all these problems started. Oh well, Thank you anyway. Peach
