Omega 3 oils and heart conditions
Supposed to help a lot of things but it seems like every study conflicts the previous.

Significant ... depends upon perspective.
Here's a review of the two studies ... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK566002/
yeah, like I said, it crushes triglycerides. whether that means anything is still up in the air
Yep, agree ... I'm also hoping this is meaningful in some meaningful way to those of us with significant calcium load.
The combo of atorvastatin and icosapent ethyl did hammer my LDL and Triglycerides. I've been fortunate not to have any obvious unwanted side effects.
I have high cholesterol and cannot tolerate any statins. Luckily I also have a calcium score in the single digits so I'm not too concerned. However I added omega-3 oils to my daily regime last year because I'm sure that I'm not getting enough of them and I'm not going to eat a lot of salmon. The lipid panel done 3.5 months later as part of my routine cardio blood work, showed the highest level of HDL that I'd ever had. Since HDL does a lot of things including Hoover LDL out of the arteries, my cardiologist and I were pleased. There was no other change that I made that would explain that difference and I don't know if I can attribute it to omega-3 oils but I'm not going to stop taking them. I do think the science is pretty clear that they're helpful in general.
pretty sure hdl levels have been discredited recently. you and your cardiologist should be indicted for war crimes for allowing your high cholesterol to go unaddressed because of your statin intolerance. get a pcsk9 inhibitor and stop effing around.
What a hatefully stated response! Where are your manners?
Dear Ann Landers,
The cause of atherosclerosis is unadressed ldl-c levels. Saying I have high cholesterol and my doctor and I are doing nothing-nothing-is a war crime in the fight against high cholesterol.
My comment was made to invoke a response. The poster thinks its ok to not address the issue because of "statin intolerance" (and btw the same amount of patients who had statin intolerance and the amount of patients with "statin intolerance" when given a placebo were magically the same in some double blind studies). There are other drugs that are even more effective in reducing ldl-c than statins but he/she is not taking them. Why?
So I hope that the poster stops effing around and does the right thing and begins a pcsk9 inhibitor.
If your feelings were hurt grow up.
Vascepa is the one you need.
You can go to the company and get A coupon that will get you a month Supply for 11$ a month
do you recommend statins as a first line of defense if not statin intolerant (I'm not sure if I am or am not). What about Vascepa as an alternative to a statin? I want to ask my doctor these questions.
Vascepa is for triglycerides only. Rosuvastatin. Is the most effective statin. Some statin intolerance is imaginary.
Get after it good luck
