What helps post COVID shortness of breath?

Hydrochlaquid: Spelling is iffy at best. I wonder if this drug would provide relief from post COVID shortness of breath?

No I have not. Do I need a referral from my primary doctor. Do I call Mayo to do this?

When I applied a physician referral was recommended.

Meet all the requirements except being employed. I am retired. I am in MN. I am wondering why just employed people have access to this?

@jwilson69002, at the moment demand for appointments exceeds availability. I suspect the employment requirement was recently added due to the increase in demand. You may wish to call the Mayo Clinic Rochester to confirm. It never hurts to ask.

@nimalw, I'm so glad to hear that your symptoms stopped after 4 weeks. Typically it takes 3 to 4 weeks to recover from a COVID infection. Mayo Clinic defines post COVID-19 syndrome as symptoms that continue four or more weeks after the start of a COVID-19 infection.

Here is an article about the 8 possible health benefits of coriander (https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/coriander-benefits) along with studies looking at what may help.

This is the website the Therapist sent me. I would appreciate your feedback. Thank you.

I had vagas nerve stimulation done this afternoon and initially, it seems to have helped, but it was not in a medical setting and instead was part of some cranial sacral therapy.

The positive experience (my heart rate is lower and my breathing is a bit easier) prompted me to do some more research.

The dolphin referenced above is what we used today.

Since I am a new member it seems I can't share any of the links I have but the title of the article is "Scientists propose cause of symptoms, treatment for long COVID-19" at it was published on the website for the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) at the University of Minnesota

Hi Nicole, You're right that there is a brief period where new members can't post links. We do this to deter spammers and keep the community safe.

I believe this is the article about two non-peer reviewed studies that "suggest that some long COVID-19 symptoms may be related to the effect of SARS-CoV-2 on the vagus nerve and that the use of enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP)—which increases blood flow—can improve some of those symptoms, respectively."

Nicole, can you explain a couple of things from your post? The dolphin you mention is in reference to @welchllb's post about the brand name Dolphin Vagal Nerve Stimulator, correct? You mention that the craniosacral therapy was not administered in a medical setting. What type of setting was it?

@colleenyoung Sure! And thanks for explaining the link policy that makes sense.

The article you linked was the one I was looking at yesterday as well. Thanks for noting it was not peer reviewed.

And yes stimulator I was referring to was the same one mentioned in @welchllb ‘s post.

The setting I had the treatment in was a body work/alternative health space with a cranial sacral therapist.

The treatment seemed to calm my system down for the afternoon/overnight but I could not say there were any lasting effects today.

Hi Lucy, you too? Its been since Early 2020 I was in assisted/ nursing for about eight weeks. No memory of time. The fog started to lift in July. The heaviness in my chest started to ease but high humidity has revved it up again. Reminding myself to lean back while sitting and breathe deeply is reassuring to me. I'm in North Carolina and the attitudes are about the same. Currently receiving physical therapy at home. My recovery has been so !ong it's frustrating. I'm in a wheelchair and working with a walker. Why aren't there post covid clinics? There are so many of us? Stressful to the max! Have an appointment with a pulmonary clinic for October28th. The urgent care clinic took two visits to identify a sinus infection recently. Not positive for Covid dunno what's wrong. Frustrating. Since I survived Covid pneumonia I'm just kicking and screaming but won't give up. Don't let it take your hope away. We will survive.

I understand there is a long Covid program in Ashville. Not sure how close you are? Will need to ask your Dr about it.

Anyone have a nebulizer to recommend? I have been told by many different sources that this could really help. And I cannot for the life of me find one that is not ALL plastic. I don't want to inhale plastic fumes. Any tips appreciated.
