Thyroid? Or something else? Constant internal shakiness

Posted by amtxo1989 @amtxo1989, Feb 26, 2018

Going on 2months now everyday non stop. Sometimes mild and im able to ignore it but over the hours of day it becomes more severe and causing my heart rate to go up and my blood pressure to go very high (170/99) its episodic. Ive been to hospital for it 3 times for it and received no treatment as my vitals slowly return to normal. Xanex helps me feel calm but does not help the shakiness just helps me not get upset about it. Am only 28 years old and hypothyroid. I have never had symptoms like this in my entire life just started out of nowhere. Iam in good sTate of mind and aware of what's happening when the episodes happen. So far my doctors are clueless.

I have recently discovered that the cause of my Hashimotos (auto immunce thyroiditis) was an over abundance of iodine. (Primarily ingested from iodized table salt). After more than 30 years of constant blood tests, doubting doctors / endocrinologists / constantly changing and adjusting thyroid medications....it was unbelievably that simple. I followed the low iodine diet recommended by American Thyroid Association, and within 30 days, I now longer need prescription medication (found a Dr. who helped monitor progress / WOULD LISTEN). In January 2023, it will have been 3 years since I took the last prescription thyroid medication (which was increasing the "internal earthquakes" / dizzyness / dry mouth / confusion, and on and on). I have never felt better! I did not expect to feel better following this low iodine diet in the beginning...but I was feeling so bad...how could it get any worse? And I got better, and better. Since I wrote this original reply, it was also discovered that I have the genetic MTHFR polymorphism (DNA test confirmed). That basically means I am among at least 25% of the population that does not eliminate toxins optimally. It explains everything after all these years! Why the dosage could not remain constant...I was getting overdosed with iodine from time to time - fluctuating iodine - which would raise TSH, lower T3, ramp up thyroid hormone destroying immune attack! I can't count how many Dr.s that adamantly expressed: "Once thyroid tissue has been destroyed / auto-immune has occurred, it can't be reversed." Some kind of cellular memory, or so they insisted. Well, I'm here, alive, kicking, and shouting - it ain't so. Apparently, some of us can and do heal - our body given (or in my case taken away) the nutrient balance that it needs. I do still take a minuscule amount of bovine thyroid glandular, about every 10 days or so. My thyroid is either still healing, or perhaps, it will never regain 100%. (I am now 65 years old). And then again, it could be because I do slip and eat an egg yolk, sea food, dairy (all high iodine) - no it's not slipping its indulging! (If I am being perfectly honest). A long, long story - all to say....try the low iodine diet found on the American Thyroid Association website. A 30 day experiment will tell the tale, and low iodine (do not read zero iodine, which is not possible nor desirable), for 30 days is not a show stopper for most people. (Check with your Dr. to be sure)
I would so like to hear any success stories!

Thank you for your reminder to reduce iodine. I have had Hoshimotos for decades, am gluten and soy free, and was trying to reduce my iodine intake, but your comment above has strengthened my resolve. The last several days the internal shakiness has been greatly reduced by following a low iodine diet including only using kosher salt in cooking and eating, as well as egg yolks, dairy and seafood. I’m 64 and it has been a battle since my early 30’s.

I’ve been allergic to everything but seafood for about30 years. Almost 76 now. Eggs I cannot eat. I always thought the egg whites were safe but NO! Whites and yolks contain the protein I am allergic to. Also, I always disclose my allergies to medical people because if anything is incubated in an egg then I cannot take it! Same with the natural (pork) thyroid hormone. But was told it was nearly like our own..after telling of my meat allergies I started, it only to have to call the pharmacy, who quizzed me when I said I was allergic to pork & then told me to immediately stop!

If we aren’t proactive the medical community has a tendency to “write off” what they’ve not heard of. Drop the eggs!!

Hi, I have had some of these same symptoms for over a year and about 4 doctors later I’m still not any closer to finding out why this is happening. It started out with chest pain lasting about 15 minutes that sent me to a doctor, after running some blood tests and a normal ecg he diagnosed me with Hasimotos and sent me for an ultrasound of my thyroid. I started levthyroxin and multiple nodules were found and my thyroid was enlarged, but we will keep an eye on it. (He said)! Still getting chest pain I was sent to a cardiologist where after lots of tests was found to be normal (lol) ! Now I have a vibration throughout my body that is driving me nuts.. Sent to a neurologist that found neuropathy in my legs and feet and started another medication for that. Still get the chest pain about once or twice a month and vibrate like a cell phone . I’m at a loss...and another ultrasound scheduled this week!

I (39yr olf Female) have this same thing! I'm comforted to hear you describe it so clearly! Thank you for that! You give me relief that I'm not crazy!
I have been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism (probably Hoshimotos) by a naturalpath MD. where I learned most people on thyroid meds still have symptoms despite hormone levels returning to normal because the inflimation in the cells is still present. Something to discuss with a REALLY GOOD Dr. NOT A DISMISSIVE ONE! I like many of you have been trying to find answers and just want to feel normal again! The most success I've had is going on a completely antiinflamatory diet. It subsides, but I still have this and other symptoms. It takes a long time to purge you body of toxins from bad food/environment toxins etc. Best of luck to all.

Hi! I think at age 76, I may have some answers regarding thyroid. Had Graves in my 50s. I had to take propanol for a year…it went into remission. About 4 years ago I stupidly began the bio identical hormone replacement pellets. I just trusted the gynecologist. He did ask if I got labs regularly and I do. However, for whatever reason, my family doctor would tell me my numbers, but no explanation. Just a statement and a look.
Anyway, I’ve spent about 4 + years trying to get normal again but it’s a definite NEW NORMAL. No longer am I the athletic person. Finally after years of telling all my docs that lupus runs in my family, without my knowledge, the doc ran the ANA test. I’m sure I have other things in remission. However, Hashimoto’s and SLE was the diagnosis. The doc thought I had psoriatic arthritis. No. The SLE was from my knees down…a horribly itchy, blistering, rash that would bleed because I itched all the time, went to walk in clinics and always the same…antibiotics to avoid cellulitis.
You are all probably suffering a autoimmune issue if not more than one. Push for the ANA test; you are so young to have to suffer.
Recently I took the genetic swab test…waiting on results.

What I meant to say is that I Don’t eat egg yolks, dairy and seafood (in addition to gluten, caffeine and soy free. Thank you to everyone’s responses. I am tired of doctors and being dismissed because these are not life threatening issues. As I keep telling them, it impacts my quality of life and should be taken seriously. I also try to be athletic person, working out, and walking multiple miles per day.

Oh, dear. With Hashimoto’s, and there’s a difference between Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism: No cruciferous veggies (sulfuric compounds (?) interfere with Hashimoto’s, at least and, of course, those are (were) ALL my favs! Then I was told nothing from the Nightshade family: Eggplant, tomatoes, all peppers, too. As I remember, I’ll pass anything that I have recently learned. Because it has hurt me over the years to be “dismissed” and it hurt emotionally as well when the doctors write you off as a hypochondriac or Just Plain Nuts. And, all “plant based” food & protein drinks: beware, they contain lycopene (tomato). Gluten free breads..have soy or eggs. Pea protein is the way..also chickpea pasta..lentil pasta, spiral carrots are your new pasta. Trying to find toppings without tomatoes or cheese and cream is no good. And..I can eat sweet potatoes…but NO WHITE POTATOES…I forget why.
I spent hours at Costco & came out with Cheerios and frozen blueberries. There’s food out there and more every day to fit our specific needs but it is a struggle. Non iodized salt. I do eat dried nori but am careful of all the forbidden food….extreme moderation. And I can’t stress enough to be proactive, LISTEN to your body and your gut feelings. We question ourselves so much and it’s sad women are, usually, the last ones they study. No idea what will make it easier to navigate the waters of physical issues but, you are not crazy. Peace, love, and happiness to you all.🙏🏼
I hope this is helpful.

Yes, it feels like you have a vibrator of some kind in your body. Mine started after I had covid. I took lyrica for months to help the tremors. It did for the most part. But I also have high blood pressure that spikes more often than not abcs when that happens, I have major tremors and chills. It usually lasts 24 to 48 hours then comes back down. I believe it is either my thyroid ( I’m hypothyroidism) or my adrenals. Something is pushing my flare ups to the max.
