Process of being a live liver donor

Posted by dolson916 @dolson916, Apr 5, 2022

Hello everyone, I’m going thru the process of becoming a live liver donor, to my friends mom. Had the phone call with donor advocate. Phone call with nurse. Went down for my three days of testing. Got done testing Thursday 3/31 and they were going to be discussing that Friday 4/1 if I would be approved, deferred, or denied. Still haven’t heard anything. Anyone else have this? I would assume they are still decided or maybe they didn’t get a chance to talk about my case that Friday and have to wait til the following Friday. Also if any live liver donors could reach out and talk about the healing process? How they felt? How they feel now? I would greatly appreciate it 🙂

Well, I did it! Since February I have been working on something. Leading into phone calls and video chats. At the end of March I traveled to the Mayo Clinic all alone, and figured out all my appointments for the three days I was here. Some days appointments from 6am-5pm. I gave up drinking. My team here at Mayo delegated my case and on April 22nd I got the phone call. I was approved. I was flippen approved. Today at 7:45 am I became a live liver donor. Today I donated my left liver lobe. 💚 trying to save a life 💚

Thank you so much for giving someone the gift of life! My son has been going through the approval process so I know it isn’t easy. It takes a special person to give so much of themself - literally and figuratively. I am hopeful that my donor will be approved, and soon. Waiting for news is not easy. Best wishes for a speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹 !!
