What's outside of your picture window today?

Posted by John, Volunteer Mentor @johnbishop, Nov 25, 2020

As we get ready for the real winter to show up and COVID-19 still playing a major part in our lives I like to spend moments of my day de-stressing about what's going on in the world today. All I have to do is look out the window and observe some of natures beautiful creatures, how they interact and ponder how small it makes my troubles seem. Sometimes I may even get the opportunity to take a photo or two. How about you? Anything going on outside of your window(s) that you want to share?

For those members that have the ability to size your photos before you upload them to the discussion, may I suggest using the following sizes:
– 500 x 335 pixels (landscape)
– 210 x 210 pixels (square)

11 below zero and the birds are fluffing up, hungry and trying to stay out of the wind... and nope, Fluffy the cat is not going out to play with the birds 🙃

It’s brutal out there today! Poor birdies! They’re really hunkered down from the wind. Thank you for taking such good care of our fine feathered friends. Fluffy has a great view! Like binge watching Netflix for Cats! 😅

I miss the duckie photos. When do they return. We have about 7 million ducks and geese in California’s Central Valley in the winter even though it’s a brutal bone chilling 50°.

Hey Jake!! I miss the duckies too! If there are any in Wisconsin they’re frozen solid, I’m afraid! Hah, a bone chilling, brutal 50 degrees? How DO you survive?
I love your sense humor. When I woke up this morning and checked the weather we had a minus 50 windchill. A 100 degrees difference between our ‘feels like”. 🥶
They won’t return until late April, early May…depending on when the ice is off the lake.
Here’s a few pics to tide you over! 🦆 Not all ducks, but waterfowl…
Female hooded merganser. Wood Duck, 2 male hooded mergansers, and the bird that resembles a loon is a Common Merganser.

Nice pictures!!!
I don’t know how you guys survive in your weather if you ever have to go outside. I’m sure if I was ever there I would freeze in mid stride.
I have long underwear on top and bottom Levi’s long sleeve, shirt, sweater, and a hoodie and I’m still cold and the heat is on. And they say California is lovely in winter but not to me. People wear sweaters when it’s 70° and coats when it’s in the 60s but I often have a coat on when it’s 70 or more. Yesterday it was 47° and I saw three people in shorts. Some people don’t have sense enough to know when they’re cold.
You got to be crazy to live in climate like that.

Just where do you live in CA, Jake? San Joaquin Valley? Close to Yosemite?

I'm a city boy in the San Joaquin Valley. Yosemite is one hundred miles east. Sacramento is seventy five miles north. Fresno is ninety miles south and San Francisco is ninety miles west. South of the Staislaus river and about one mile north of the Tuolumne river. You tell me. You should have figured it out.
