Sex after a kidney transplant

Posted by ski8 @ski8, Nov 29, 2022

Married 45 years. Transplant meds have ruined my sex function. Transplant was six years ago. Does anyone out there have oral sex? Is it safe?

Welcome @ski8. Congratulations on a successful transplant. Sex for some people is better after a transplant. But that's not the case for everyone. Sometimes serious problems on dialysis cannot be reversed. Diabetes, or stress, or side effects of drugs can affect sex drive.

According to this Q&A on the National Kidney Foundation, "Men and women can have normal sexual relations after kidney transplantation. Sexual acts from traditional intercourse to oral sex should not pose any unusual risks to either of you." Have you talked to your transplant team about options to improve sex functionality or your concerns about oral sex? You might wish to speak to your transplant social worker.

I think oral sex would be affected because of the weak immune system. People easily get infected like urinary tract infection, but I think it may be okay sometimes, just keep clean as more as possible.
