Continued Post-Nasal Drip and Constant Mucus in Throat

Posted by adominic @adominic, Mar 22, 2022

I was sick the last week or January/first week of February. Home Test-negative, rapid PCR-negative. All COVID symptoms and known prolonged exposure to infected individuals make me believe it was COVID. Since then, I have had a tremendously hard time dealing with post-nasal drip and mucus collecting in my throat. It is clear, sticky and almost impossible to remove from throat by coughing or clearing my throat. Flonase does nothing, allergy pills do nothing. Had anyone else had an issue like this post COVID? How long did it last? What did you do to cope? Small problem in comparison to others that post here, I realize.

The best thing ever is Saline nasal spray with xylitol. It sounds so simple but it works tremendously.

i've been told that the thick mucus in my throat is from post nasal drip...i don't completely agree, i do agree covid has messed up my sinuses, since covid my sinues are chronic but with me paying more attention to the problem, i have noticed that the mucus starts building in my throat after i eat or drink anything, how thick it is depends on what i eat. i do not have acid reflux, sometimes it gets so bad it almost closes my throat, i swear i could blow a bubble with it, doesn't matter the time of day..then it does mess up the sinuses and i can get some post nasal drip down my throat along with whats coming up...i hate it!!!!

yes..sometimes the dried blood with me too, mostly though it's like elmers wood glue----really really thick, light yellow, i have never in my lifetime experienced anything like this. i've decided i'm going to make a list of every symptom i have from this wicked virus then post it on connect...i just pray it will go away. in three weeks it will be 3 years i've dealt with it...hang in there everyone, we have to beat this!!

Wondering if anyone has notice post-Covid mucus issues ONLY in their ears?
I had Covid in late August; it was one day of fever and then a mild cold. I had a month or so of a mostly tickly cough, then an actual cold (not Covid) about five weeks after Covid, which was worse than Covid.
After my cold was gone, I had several weeks of mucus in the back of my throat that felt like gravel w/a painful cough, some sinus pain, and my ears began closing up.
The gravely feeling in my throat is better, but about fifty percent of the time my ears are filled with fluid and I can barely hear. I do not have any nasal congestion at all. Blowing my nose produces nothing. My cough and sinus pain is gone. I feel completely fine. I still feel some drainage down the back of my throat.
I tried my usual remedies for seasonal allergies - Flonase, a daytime antihistimine Guaifenesen - none of them seem to make a difference. I can wake up in the morning and my ears feel fine - and then in the middle of the day I'll feel them filling with fluid and I can barely hear anything.
I do have summer and fall allergies, and I wonder if that's contributing to this issue. I have them every year, though, and have never had issues with my ears before.

@celeste23

Thanks for the reply but what are the two things you are referring to try?

I had Covid the last week of September, now the sinus problems are hanging on..Stopped up head, now using Flixonase, but it isn't stopping the congestion and pain. Nasal sprays that only work for 4 days don't solve this problem.
I must say though, it is helpful to know that others are having similar problems post Covid.

I’m another person with with the ears feeling full and nothing helping. Post nasal drip continues also. My Covid was back in June 2022. Been to ENT and other doctors and nothing is working. Even an allergist..But no allergy that would coarse this

Yes. I have that and nothing seems to help. I’ve tried Sudafed, mucinex, Tussin, inhalers, nasal rinses, but I can’t sleep at night ge sure I’m constantly coughing from the clear mucus.

Yes, I have the congestion in my sinuses, throat and lungs. It is very sticky. Almost like a glue. It causes bad sinus headaches, sore throat and pain in my chest/cough. Mucinex helps a little. But nothing really breaks up the thick stuff deep in the sinus and lungs.
I got Covid the end of Jan. 2022. So I’m coming up on a year now.
Very frustrating! In addition to these symptoms I have many more. Ugh!!!!!!!!!
