Covid and AFib Connection?

Posted by cece55 @cece55, Oct 8, 2021

Hello Everyone,

I am curious and would like to ask this group a question. I have AFib but had not had an event for over a year except for last November. In early February of this year I took the Phizer Vaccine for Covid and had several Afib events with one lasting over a month even with cardioversion. I ended up having an ablation in May and the electrophysiologist found an enlarged and scarred atrium.

I have been doing well and am still on Flecainade, Metoporal and Eliquis. He is about to take the Flecainade away. It is time for my booster shot and I am scared that it will put me into Afib again. My Electrophysiologist and Cardiologist at Mayo said they don't feel that the vaccine had anything to do with my Afib events starting up again.

Has anyone here experienced this? I am debating whether or not to cancel my appointment next week or just take the shot. My doctors said it is better to take the booster than to get Covid.

Thoughts?

Thank You...Blessings to all of you during this trying time. CeCe55

For my personal belief, increase your immune system, read up on vitamin D3, zinc and echinacea goldenseal. There are other supplements which will help boost your immune system. Follow your own path. But I would not ever consider getting another vaccine because I’ve been permanently in a-fib since I received my second shot Moderna. I have had two attempted cardio versions one of them they attempted three times while I was under. I have also.since the Moderno shots, had ablation which was unsuccessful. Think for yourself and make your own decision about your bodies best effort to fight off any flu or Covid.

about vaccines going back years.
I've had 2 Pfizer and one booster, and that's all forever for me.

I was so reluctant to ever have it, but my daughter was insistent.
I am now in Cardio ICU at hospital, with clots and big Afib, (it never stops, since Covid,
I am always in Afib, but the meds are worse, to me.

And, in case you missed it, Pfizer (the company that wanted to keep their records closed for 75 years!!!!) admitted that they never ran trials of the Covid vax. Nice, huh?

We were all literally their human guinea pigs. And suffering because of the money grubbers at Big Pharma. Liars, cheats, thieves!

Vax and AFib Connection?

I can only relate my personal experience. I'm 68, healthy, male. I developed Supra Ventricular Tachycardia the evening after my first Moderna booster (injection 3). A week later I went into frequent A-fib for about 6 weeks, finally landing in the ER for a work-up. I should note that although I had not previously been diagnosed with arrythmias I had complained of erratic heartbeat a few years back and was worked up by a cardiologist with negative results at that time. AND, a couple of months prior to the booster on that day I had SVT, I'm pretty sure I had a bad bout of A-fib one night after drinking and staying up nearly all night under stressful condition. So, I consider myself as one prone to A-fib anyway. After the ER visit, I was placed on Metoprolol and Eliquis, stopped drinking alcohol and consuming caffeine, and now have only infrequent episodes of very brief A-fib. I was very concerned about taking additional boosters. My cardiologist dismissed the vaccine as a cause but convinced me that in any event, getting Covid would be worse at inducing A-fib than the vaccine. I travel frequently so I decided to get the 2nd booster (4th injection), but switched to Pfizer, and had no reactions. 6 months later I had the bivalent booster (Pfizer) and had no reaction. I'm currently on Metoprolol Tartrate at 6.25 mg once a day, Eliquis twice a day, and take D3, Magnesium and Zinc supplements.

I keep my immune system strong with many natural supplements--beta glucan, astragalus and more.

Never had heart trouble before! And looooow blood pressure. Don't drink. No caffeine. Stopped smoking more than 40 years ago. Super fit and active (factory work for almost 25 years). After retirement, Planet Fitness 3 times a week or on our treadmill almost every night. Trim! In fact, after the vax, I got too thin due to the adverse reaction of chronic diarrhea! After 18 months and dropping down to an alarming 115, I finally got it under control with DAO enzyme. After two months of that histamine-digesting enzyme, I reached to bottom end of my goal: 123 pounds! Ultimate goal? 127. Yes, I got back to normal and regained 8 pounds in two months. So grateful to Inspire.com and the people on the MCAS forum over there.

My motto? God's Pharmacy First!

Where did you do the ablation? Need second opinion. Hate to see you give up and suffer.

I am so sorry to read about your situation. I too developed Afib and other health problems after the Pfizer vaccine. We have caring doctors but sadly, they cannot tell patients not to take the vaccine and keep their jobs. This vaccine will not prevent or stop transmission of covid. Also covid illnesses are at the lowest they have been. So many are seriously ill from the vaccine. Other responses to your post are accurate. I am not against vaccines that have been thoroughly tested and none of the covid vaccines have been reliably tested. Please reconsider getting any boosters. There are safe alternatives to the vaccine, I encourage you to explore them and work with your doctor to manage your symptoms. I have had positive results with daily exercise and stress management techniques. Wishing you good health!

Not anti-vax but I will NEVER take another MRNA vaccine ever again.
This was my experience:

Prior to second dose of Pfizer vaccine in June 2021, no history of heart problems of any kind. BP typically 130's/80's, higher BMI but strong and physically active.

Within a week of the second dose, heavy fatigue, tired no matter how much sleep or rest. BP rose to 140-150/80's. Felt heart "skipping beats" frequently which I now know are PVCs.

April 2022 contracted covid. Bad respiratory infection for 2 weeks but got better rapidly. Covid did not appear to have any effect on PVC burden (measured by ECG and Kardia several times before and after covid).

Fast forward to today; Fatigue and asthenia make it challenging to be physically active to prior vaccination levels. Cardiac MRI showed previous myocarditis. Bi-, tri- and quadgeminy PVCs with 20,000+ PVCs per day. Tried several anti-arrhythmics including amiodarone with no positive effect. Beta and calcium channel blockers did not reduce PVC burden. Found lots of side effects while trying all the different meds. Amiodarone was particularly bad causing pulmonary admiodarone toxicity and thyroid toxicity. Diltiazem made fatigue worse and was actually pro-arrythmic. BP meds brought BP under control.

Conclusion? I am convinced the Pfizer SARS-COV2 vaccine was the pathogenesis of my high PVC burden. Anecdotally, several health care providers I have spoken to (including, physicians, paramedics, pharmacists, MRI and nuclear medicine techs) agree to seeing a marked increase in patients with the same issues.

Did the vaccine reduce the severity of covid infection? Were the lasting side effects worth the risk?

You be the judge...

Has your BP stayed elevated? My story is so similar, but took the Moderna. Started having palpitations after second shot. Prior, BP was normal - 120 -80.. Now a year later still have palps and elevated BP. Would like to hear from others who saw blood pressure issues post vac.

I had the Moderna vaccine in February and woke up with A-F that night about 1:00 am. Plus had other side effects. I don't know if the vaccine triggered the episode or if it didn't. I have been having episodes of A-F every 3-4 weeks.

Not sure what to think: About two months ago, Google implemented its Afib algorithm (Afib/irregular heart beat detection & tracking) for all premium FitBit users. I activated it.

On October 9th, I received the new Moderna bivalent COVID-19 booster (fifth dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine: 2 originals; two WT boosters; new bivalent booster). I had no adverse reactions of any kind after the 4 preceding vaccinations.

On October 14th, the Friday following the bivalent booster dose, I experienced a very distressing/stressful incident (that really activated sympathetic nervous system). I note this because I really had a stressful meltdown that wiped me out physically & mentally.

I went to bed that night & awoke the next morning, October 15th, to a flurry of FitBIT Afib notifications. Firwst ever. One was recorded as early as 10:21 p.m. while the majority recorded events that occurred in the very early hours of the next morning.

Apart from being alarmed--& puzzled, by the Afib notifications, I felt fine.

Note: According to FitBit, which has been collecting health- & specifically heart-related health & fitness data (on me) since 2015, my cardio fitness ranks at the 99th percentile (within my age group; I am 64). I do extreme fitness workouts (Insanity, TapOut XT, P90X, P90X2, P90X3) 4-5 times each week, I average about 12,000 steps per day (even though I am an office worker). My BMI is 18. My resting heart rate is 46. I have NO history of cardiovascular disease whatsoever. I take no medications.

So I was profoundly disturbed by the FitBit/Google AFib notificaitons. Btw: The Google/FitBit AFib algorithm is an FDA-approved medical device & a clinical trial confirmed its accuracy (corresponding to a medical-grade EKG) at 98%.

More information: I consume a plant-based diet that I supplement with Bulletproof Brain Octane, which is a an MCT-based (distilled & concentrated caprylic acid, C8) Keto supplement. I do this primarily for the brain-nutrient benefits. However, Keto supplementation, like a Keto diet, drives depletion of essential electrolytes, especially magnesium & potassium. I have not been supplementing with either magnesium or potassium (though I do take a multi-vitamin with both in small amounts, far, far below the minimum daily requirements) .

Well, we know how important both potassium & magnesium are to heart function.

My reading of some literature (both of a scientific & non-scientific variety) on Keto/Keto supplementation & the essential roles that magnesium & potassium play in electrocardio function lead me to wonder...whether the combination of the recent bivalent Moderna booster (creating the expected immunological activation & inflammation) & my three-times daily Bulletproof supplementation (I put it in a plant-based protein shake; once a day I make a shake with my blender that includes 6-7 cups of fresh baby spinach, which should provide me with a healthy dose of magnesium)...

...did not precipitate/cause these bouts of arrythmia (which the Google algorithm terms "irregular heart beats")?

Since October 15th, I have had two other series of FitBit 'Afib' notifications, recorded once again during my sleep...in the early morning hours.

Note: I have ordered high-quality magnesium taurate & potassium citrate supplements (& am anxiously awaiting their delivery).

Would very much appreciate reading other people thoughts & feedback.

Anticipatory thanks, Shoshin
