Covid and AFib Connection?

Posted by cece55 @cece55, Oct 8, 2021

Hello Everyone,

I am curious and would like to ask this group a question. I have AFib but had not had an event for over a year except for last November. In early February of this year I took the Phizer Vaccine for Covid and had several Afib events with one lasting over a month even with cardioversion. I ended up having an ablation in May and the electrophysiologist found an enlarged and scarred atrium.

I have been doing well and am still on Flecainade, Metoporal and Eliquis. He is about to take the Flecainade away. It is time for my booster shot and I am scared that it will put me into Afib again. My Electrophysiologist and Cardiologist at Mayo said they don't feel that the vaccine had anything to do with my Afib events starting up again.

Has anyone here experienced this? I am debating whether or not to cancel my appointment next week or just take the shot. My doctors said it is better to take the booster than to get Covid.

Thoughts?

Thank You...Blessings to all of you during this trying time. CeCe55

Post hoc, ergo propter hoc. It's a fallacious form of reasoning, and one must be very careful inferring that because an undesired event follows another unusual event, even proximally, doesn't mean that the one caused the other.

Beware of false attribution of the kind that is known as 'post hoc, ergo propter hoc'. Literally, from Latin, 'After this, therefore because of this.' I might agree with you if the AF came on between five and ten days after the vaccine, but five weeks is well after the body has finished accommodating the necessary and intended changes the vaccine had to offer him, the host.
Viruses cause inflammation. Inflammation results in elevated cortisol. When people get sick, they lose sleep. This is all stressful, and cause cause heart arrhythmias in those who are already circling the drain or who have full-blown AF.
Why have my wife and I been free of any problems and have both had flu and COVID vaccines. I began an annual flu shot in 2000, a year before I deployed on peace-keeping to Bosnia-Herzegovina. We have both had four boosters for COVID. Why did my AF develop three years prior to COVID and the various vaccines if the vaccines cause AF? Isn't that backwards?
Fallacious reasoning: post hoc, ergo propter hoc.

What are PVC"S..I am thinking of getting an apple watch. How does that help?

I had been noticing very occasional brief throat flutters sometimes accompanied by lightheadedness when I was walking. I mentioned this to my cardiac dr on my 6 month visit and was sent home with a Cardea Solo monitor attached to my chest for 7 days. I received feedback yesterday that there were “frequent PVCs and occasional short run Tachycardia” but nothing to be concerned about. Still, this alarms me. How would I know when this becomes more concerning?

I was told for years that PVC's are harmless. They are scary, yes. Why do you have a cardiologist: do you have other issues?

Just BP issues but I started with a cardiologist in FL back in 2005 when I had swollen ankles and intermittent claudication when walking. When I moved to GA 6 years ago, I decided to stay with a cardiologist up here even though BP was under control and no more swelling or intermittent claudication. Heart issues ran in my family so I wanted to establish a relationship with a specialist here in GA.

I have posted this before but here is the story. Have been on dofetilide for about 9 years, and during that time I have had NO AF events other than 2 that occurred with 10 months of the initial Moderna shots. That was 2 1/2 years ago and I have had NO events since. I totally blame the Covid shots and I am sorry I got them. I will never have a booster shot and from all the news, the boosters are worse than the initial shots.

I had the Pfizer booster 9/30/21 next night my heart was racing like i never experienced. Had my annual cardiologist appointment 10/5/21. Had an ecg and he did not like what he saw wore a monitor for a couple days and sure enough A-Fib.
I will NEVER take any vaccine again of any type.
So many people were injured in some way from these vaccines.
And no one has any recourse.
However all these drug companies made billions and dont care.
Its a travesty what they sold and lied about to the American people.
All in the name of profit. DISGUSTING

Millions upon millions of people of all types, ages, sexes, proclivities, and education have been vaccinated with the three or four most common COVID vaccines, and most of them several times, even with changed vaccines. The hospitals have not been overrun with heart patients. However, a lot more people are aging, and age is known to be a factor in AF, as well as height, sex (males get it more than females), sleep apnea (often undetected), BMI higher than 27, and neck girth higher than 17" (yes, it's a thing with AF and with sleep apnea, which, as I said, is a precursor in many AF sufferers).

Recently, I have had both Zostavax and the two Shingrix vaccines, plus the twin pneumonia vaccines. Four years ago I also had a tetanus and diphtheria booster, which everyone should get about every ten years. I had a yellow fever vaccine 13 years ago. Sorry, no heart conditions that came as a result of the COVID vaccines (Moderna and Pfizer, both twice). In fact, my AF was diagnosed in 20-17, quite a bit earlier than any whiff of COVID.

I’ve had all the Moderna Boosters and never had reactions to them. I only reacted to the first set of shots. Everyone reacts differently though. Having had friends/family who had terrible bouts with COVID, I will continue getting available boosters. It’s a personal decision and I respect your decision to not get them.

I am happy for you that you had no issues.
As you know everyone is different.
However you can’t dispute and it is very well documented so many people were injured from the vaccine.
And now they that want to put MRNA in other vaccines.
The triggers you mentioned for A-Fib BMI etc do not apply to me. Again everyone is different and when it comes to A-Fib i dont believe one size fits all.
You shouldn’t be as you stated “sorry no heart conditions that came as a result from the covid vaccines”.
Instead be happy and feel fortunate.
