Diagnosed with pseudomonas aeruginosa infection in my lungs

Posted by smokeycat442 @smokeycat442, Jan 3, 2019

I haven't had any success with many antibiotics including 3 weeks on a IV of Zosyn! Does anybody have any suggestions? What about the antibiotic Ceftazidime? I'm sure that this is one antibiotic that I have not been prescribed by my doctor. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks for your response Sue. I am not very good at finding old discussions (this one began in Jan 2019) so it iots of work for me to find my post and check for replies. I appreciate you finding it and responding.

Until the Oregon study is completed, we won't know for sure if saline actually kills bacteria in the lung as opposed to in a petri dish. I believe they are recruiting so it's really at an early stage. My doctor, and others, have said that it is not a treatment for killing bacteria. However, clearing sputum out of airways is certainly beneficial.

I am very glad that you are doing well. I believe it's a year since you stopped the antibiotics?

Yes, one year next week. Pulmonologist saw me this week and she is happy with the sound of my lungs and general progress, but laughed when I complained about lack of energy and told me that I am doing pretty well considering age and lungs. She suggested chasing toddlers might be the cause.

Hi Erika...there are many of us that also have MAC and bronchiectasis and get pseudo, and dialogue about it in this group....are you keeping in both groups then?

@megan123 It sounds like this discussion would be helpful in both groups. Yes, due to your question I added it to both groups just now. Thank you for the question/suggestion.

I believe the nigella sativa (Black Seed) may assist along with Hemp and palmitoylethanolamide

@rits You have pseudomonas and you are looking for treatment information.

You will notice that I moved your question, "Treatment for pseudomonas" into a discussion where members are already discussing this topic. I did this so you could more quickly connect in order to have your questions answered. I encourage you to scroll back through the comments to find previously shared suggestions as well.

May I ask if you have considered getting a second opinion to see if their treatment recommendations are similar?

Erika, I've posted my question again in the MAC group. I don't follow this group and I don't believe that the people I am trying to reach belong here either. It took me 3 days to find my message and I didn't get the response I had hoped to receive, Please leave it in MAC. Thanks and happy new year.

It took me forever to find this and I wondered and wondered why it wasn't posted so I'm glad that I finally found your post. I had to go into my profile to see if I actually wrote and posted or was losing my mind. Lol.

As I said I did search and found the previous replies but I didn't find them helpful or I wouldn't have posted. I know what the treatments are and I am fortunate to being able to be treated by a top expert in the field of lung organisms, Pamela McShane at Tyler, Tx. She got rid of my MAC in 2 months and we have an amazing rapport. My general pulmonogist at the U of Chicago defers to Dr McShane re bacteria. But thanks for the suggestion.

What I was looking for was input from other patients, e.g. Terri, who recently stopped treatment which she took for years due to side effects.

All is good. I will discuss it with Dr McShane in a few weeks and ask her why she doesn't want to treat immediately which is what she did with MAC.

Is Dr. McShane with a hospital or group? Tyler would be close for me since I live in Louisiana.

I have also been diagnosed with Pseudomonas Aeruginosa back in Jan.2022. I am sorry to say I only know the name of the medication I am currently on. I have a nebulizer for use with saline then followed by Tobramycin.
Originally I was given a tablet that was maybe Levaquin that had rupture of tendons as a side effect. They eventually realized I had ruptured tendons so I couldn't take that.
Then I went on the IV medication which helped a lot. At some point they stopped that and replaced it with the nebulized Tobramycin. I continue on Tobramycin.

I wish I could help both of us! May you be safe for many years to come.

A friend of mine here in Oregon who is an amazing herbal self taught healer. She swears by Oregon Grape Bark as a tea.

I want to try it but need someone to find me some.
