Effexor Tapering Off and Side Effects
I am tapering off Effexor after being on it for over a decade. I've noticed my stomach gets queasy & I have digestion issues. Has anybody else had this problem?

I am trying to taper from Effexor XR 75mg that I have been on for 20+ years. I am trying to do a very slow taper per instructions on the Surviving Antidepressants website. I am down to 73mg after since May 28. That said, yes, I do have stomach issues, mainly nausea and diarrhea, some days. The diarrhea happens when I am feeling anxious (which is most of the time) and the nausea comes when I have tapered too fast.

3 ReactionsAre you able to take anything to help? I try to have yogurt & metamucil each day.
Thank you for the suggestions, but I can't seem to tolerate yogurt or any kind of supplements. I can't even take a multi vit. My CNS has become so sensitive, that almost everything bothers me.
Sorry to learn that. Good luck.
Second time slowly withdrawing from 75 mg effexor after being on for about 10 yrs . Body pain is making itself known, diarrhea x10, everything feels off. I am now feeling old and I don't like it. Going to try and get a 37.5 script to see if that's the way to go.
I, too, have diarrhea but immodium is helping. My sleep is disruptive also.
I tapered to 37.5 mg for 4 weeks until I had severe withdrawals. I went back to my original dose of effexor 75 mg xr three weeks ago and physical anxiety symptoms are terrible - shaking, skin crawling, tingling, nerve pain , insomnia, etc. The symptoms seemed to improve after 10 days , ok for 3 and now can’t stop shaking . Unfortunately I don't have a family dr anymore. Has anyone experienced this and did it improve or did you increase or decrease dose?

1 ReactionI just reduced to 10 balls of effexor from 75 mg without any problems other than returning to my grouchy old self like I was before. I went back to 37.5 and after taking it in the a.m. felt much better later that day. Going to see if 37.5 is going to do it for me. I hope your symptoms resolve but do find another doc.
I reduced from 75 mg daily to 75 mg one day and 37.5 mg the next for one month then just 37.5 for 3 weeks. The first 6 weeks were fine and then everything fell apart. I've been to the ER twice and told to keep taking it. Now told to increase. No family doctors available in Ontario. I'm not opposed to taking medication if necessary and it likely is but would like it to be the right one. It's frustrating and frightening.

1 ReactionI have been on Effexor for almost a year now, I decided to go off, I tapered my dose down to 3mg over time, then after 3 weeks stopped completely. Has anyone had first hand experience with withdrawal symptoms, mine are quite sever. I am heading into week 4 of being off the meds. I feel very bad(sad, worried, negative thoughts, anxiety, etc.)
How long can I expect this to last? Thanks
