Post COVID: Anyone experiencing internal vibrations?

Posted by sharho @sharho, Jul 7, 2022

I have had long covid for over two years and a symptom began sporadically during the initial seven weeks that has worsened since a second covid experience. It began as a “flutter” in my chest upon waking, lasting 5 seconds or so. It is not painful just a new sensation I have never experienced. After getting covid again in February 2022, the internal vibrations have become full body and go on for forty seconds. It is always upon waking or falling asleep temporarily during meditation and waking again. Long Covid retired me from my profession and I am not under any stress. I had a recent cardiac incident (also due to long Covid) and wore a Holter monitor. I triggered it whilst having an IV incident: definitely not cardiac induced. Has anyone else experienced IV like this?

I have long Vaccine injury - almost 8 months - never covid (I was tested) - but the Covid booster sent my thyroid into shock and my immune system into over drive. I have (had) many of the same long covid symptoms including the internal vibration - and one can only understand that feeling if you have had it - it's bizarre and unsettling. I too wake up with a 'buzz' and when I lay down to sleep I have to do 'calming' things to settle myself. I had horrible blood pressure spiking for 7 months, finally able to wean off the beta blockers. After having so many Western doctors think I was nuts, I've turned to alternative approaches - reiki and meditation and starting with a new person next week who helps you work with your own autonomic nervous system. The vibration and tinnitus are pretty much my remaining symptoms - the hardest to get rid of. Anything that distracts the ANS is helpful - tapping, pressure points, ice pack, etc.

First post…I started having earthquake moments shortly after I had my 2nd Moderna vax. Along with very loud and annoying humming that no one else hears. The vibes are really strong like sitting on a riding lawnmower at times. Going on about 1.5 years now. Used to be whenever, no triggers. Now mostly at night. Seem to start early then get stronger over an hour so. Keeps me up all night. Exhausted all medical help. PCP, cardiology (2:1 heart block after covid with subsequent pacemaker, sleep study, Pulmonology, neurology , EEG, recently on trial dose of Ambien (very nice). Only good for about 4 hours or so. Started selenium and zinc picolinate (verdict still out), GABA (quit due to brain fog), very recent MRI revealed previously unknown meningioma near central sulcus. No demyelination. EEG normal. Have Sleep Apnea with CPAP. Hiatal hernia with GERD. And long standing DIABETES 2 and all the meds that go with it. ADHD and on amphetamines for 30 plus years. PCP is wanting me to go to Mayo Clinic but have no savings due to my deceased wife’s cancer and have Medicaid and Medicare. No one what to do hence the referral. No can do due to financial situation. There ya go. My story. Retired licensed professional counselor. Lots going on but the vibrations are eating me up mentally and physically. I am happy to listen to ideas out answer any questions if needed.

I wish I had a miracle cure for you but I don't. I think the key is to do whatever it takes to calm your Autonomic Nervous System down and strengthen and detox the rest of your system. I drink electrolytes daily - I put powdered ones in my water. That has been a huge help overall. When things were bad, I would put a mask on at night and listen to TV so as to take away all the other stimuli. Yoga breathing. Earthing helps me a lot - walking barefoot on the grass or lying on the grass for 20 minutes. Please look it up - then I won't sound so crazy. LOL. When I felt like the world was shaking or I was revving up - I would jump around, dance, scream, sing - all these things to distract my ANS from over working. My functional med doctor has me on fresh squeezed celery juice 20 min before eating in the AM. Tons of dark berries - blueberries, blackberries, grapes - the darker the better. Lipsomal Glutathione. Resveratol, Tumeric, Vitamin D, A, K combo. Magnesium at night. Also look up ways to support your vagal nerve. Again - then I won't sound like a California Hippie! 🙂 I'm now 10 months post booster - things are better but not normal. Learning to live with chronic issues because I don't want to miss out on more of my life. I wish you all the best. I know it's an awful feeling.

Welcome @sharho. Because your symptoms appear to be related to long COVID, I moved your post to the Post-COVID Recovery support group here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/post-covid-recovery-covid-19/

Fellow members like @vash @vonpinnon @robinholly @aae @pattykakes have all mentioned dealing with internal vibrations in this related discussion:

- Anyone Found Help/Explanation for Long Covid Neurological Symptoms https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/long-covid-neurological-symptoms/

They may have some experiences and tips to share with you.
@sharho, I find it curious that you get these vibrations when you are in presumably relaxed states, like falling asleep, upon waking or while meditating. I'd like to think this is part of the healing process (not a medical opinion). Do you have other neurological symptoms?

@colleenyoung ,

I too have experienced internal vibrations for the last year and a half. I've met with 3 neurologists now with no solutions that have worked. Mine are always at night when sleeping or trying to go to sleep. They've moved around everywhere, now they're mostly in my head and chest. The difference for me though is that I have not had Covid that I'm aware of. Can you direct me if there's another group on this topic? Thanks!

I have those internal vibrations post Covid vaccines. Have not had Covid to my knowledge. Tinnitis worse than ever was. Numbness in hands and Essential Tremor when working on small motor skills: sewing, weaving. My PT person believes I am also a long covid patient. Have some cardiac palpitations, exhausted, not sleeping well and short of breath at times. Am having MRI next week to address headache over left eye and zinging headache over left ear.

I have tremors but only when I am lying down. They have moved from just the lower part of my body to the upper part now and are stronger. I have seen every type of doc but a neurologist. When does this end?

I'm new to this thread and reading the posts. I'll try to cram the timeline and my personal storyline in here as briefly as possible, but hopefully someone here can help in support. I got covid in late November 2020 (lost sense of taste and smell with nothing out of the ordinary). Fast forward a year later to November of 2021, and out-of-the- blue my right eye started twitching, followed by muscle twitching in my right arm, and then eventually all over my body which basically hasn't stopped. I then started experiencing heavy/dizzy/leaning feeling all the time and when walking, along with feeling fatigued and an abnormal feeling in my gait. I also experienced these weird internal vibrations while laying down at night, but mostly when I woke up in the morning. It was nothing that I have ever felt before in my life. I was finally able to get an MRI to scan for lesions on my brain and then met with my neurologist in January of 2022. The first MRI of my brain and top area of my neck came back normal and unremarkable. My neurologist then completed the EMG test and then another MRI, this time of my upper spine/cervical neck area. Both tests came back as normal. The Neurologist ruled out the scary ALS and stated she didn't think it was MS either. Though the tests all came back clear (which is a relief to negate the scary stuff), these symptoms, unfortunately, persist, even though with less internal vibrations interestingly enough. I still to this day have the heaviness and the "weighted down" feeling, as well as muscle twitches everywhere and wavy ripple-like muscle twitches in my legs. I have fatigue and especially in my right hand/arm when picking stuff up. I do plan to go back to the neurologist and re-test with an EMG, just to make sure muscle/nerves haven't degenerated.

For a span of maybe a month or two, these symptoms had lessened, but then have reared its ugly head again the past few weeks. I suppose the good news is that I don't feel I've deteriorated within the last 10/11 months as far as muscle degeneration, worsened fatigue, etc. However, the bad news is, it hasn't "gone away" like what many people have told me, and while doing the self-research on the ol' Google machine. I take magnesium at night, and I think that helps a little with the muscle spasms. If anyone can share their experiences with me, it would be greatly appreciated.
