Continued Post-Nasal Drip and Constant Mucus in Throat

Posted by adominic @adominic, Mar 22, 2022

I was sick the last week or January/first week of February. Home Test-negative, rapid PCR-negative. All COVID symptoms and known prolonged exposure to infected individuals make me believe it was COVID. Since then, I have had a tremendously hard time dealing with post-nasal drip and mucus collecting in my throat. It is clear, sticky and almost impossible to remove from throat by coughing or clearing my throat. Flonase does nothing, allergy pills do nothing. Had anyone else had an issue like this post COVID? How long did it last? What did you do to cope? Small problem in comparison to others that post here, I realize.

I had a bad case of covid pneumonia in the hospital for 3 weeks, it is now September and I still have some phlegm but not as much as at the beginning, it too is sticky. I have allergies in the past but was under control until covid. It seems if I use steam morning & evening, and and a sinus rinse it helps.

My case was mild in late July, but I still have mucus I’m still coughing up.

I found Mucinex helped initially, but after a while didn’t seem to make a difference.

I am an ICU RN and I contracted covid in April 2022 in Chicago. I had long covid and was off work for 2 months. It is Sept 2022 and I STILL have issues with increased thick mucous/post nasal drip. Some days are worse than others. Oddly, when I work I wear a KN95 and another mask over it and on those days, I have no symptoms. When I have a few days off, it gets progressively worse. Anyone else have anything close to this?

Can I ask why you say to use the bottle and not the netipot for nasal rinses?

That is what my ENT doctor recommended. I am not sure why, but I have found the squeeze bottle much easier to use than the neti pot.

I'm new to this connect thing...i caught covid on a plane or airport december of 2019...way before we knew what it really was and have not been the same since, so that's going to be almost 3yrs now. It messed up my nervous system and i still cough as well as have mucus in my throat that is like wood glue...sucks! I used to use a neti pot as well as the squeeze bottle because this virus also really messed up my sinuses. I don't use either of them any more, instead i got a navage..love it!! The only bad thing about it is you have to get their salt pods, i will never go back to a neti pot or bottle..I have other symptoms too and still am working at getting better....soooo hate this virus and what it's doing to people...hang in there you all..there has to be light at the end of the tunnel!

Yeah, me, too. I was quite sick in July for ~ 2 weeks. At first it seemed my allergies kicked in, sneezing and runny nose. Then the nasal mucous turned rock hard. Impossible to deal with. I used my saline nose spray, at least 4 time/day and that eased it a little. Then it went into bronchitis and I coughed up green phlegm until my chest hurt. It was so sticky & thick, I was exhausted after a coughing fit.

I had other weird symptoms, but never fever. Taste, appetite, smell, totally gone for an entire month. Achy muscles, extreme insatiable thirst, gastro burning, diarrhea & unrelenting headache.

The bronchitis and phlegm issue lasted another month. Now I just have the thirst/gastro issues, which are slowly improving. I thought Omnicron was like a cold, but it was not.

2 weeks without sugar....

as I told in my first post, my post covid pnd gets worse, after eating sweets. Even eating fruit like apples or pears, my pnd immediately gets worse.
Searching the web about "sugar post nasal drip", I found many informations about how sugar weakens immunitary system, and worse the pnd..
I have kept eating sweets regularly after covid, and so my pnd was resistent to any medical tratment (Ipratropium bromide, cortisone among the others).
2 weeks ago, after eating a cup of hot chocolate + a chocolate sweetroll, my pnd got so bad that I decided to remove all the icecreams, sweets etc... I used to eat in my diet.
After 2 weeks, I can say the pnd improved a lot, even though it is still there...

omg! I have finally found some hope with this thread! I tested positive for Covid on May 25th and the thickest mucus in my throat was the 1st sign and its been horrible since. I did develop a very bad sore throat but the worst of Covid was over in about a week but here I am now 7/8/22 and the white coating in the back of my throat with feeling like I always have something in my throat is lingering and driving me NUTS! I have been to the ENT twice and had scopes done and was dx with gerd/lpr and on meds now for that but I had this as a first symptom so does it just turn into gerd/lpr and any hopes of how long this stays or how to get it to go? I have tried everything and I just keep hearing Long Covid but it takes time and I am praying for something to make it go! I am starting massages. chiropractor and even acupuncture...trying ALL the things! I did buy that Mucus-Clear stuff I saw on Amazon, it has amazing reviews but only had a few days so can't speak on that yet!

If you have a white coating in the back of your mouth check it with your doctor. It might be Thrush due to Candida albicans. It has happened to other patients.

Hi. I was diagnosed with Covid-19 in November of 2021. Every since the diagnosis I have been suffering from chronic throat mucus. It feels like I have a lump in my throat. I can't cough anything up and out. I am constantly clearing my throat and swallowing. Some days or worse than others depending on what I eat and drink. I have to limit or have no coffee, tea, orange juice, alcohol, dairy products, and certain foods due to the mucus build up. I have tried antibiotics thinking it was r/t to sinus infection early on as well as using a steroid pack and having a steroid injection. I've used otc medications such as mucinex, sudafed, benadryl, zyrtec, nasal sinus rinses, nasal sprays, all natural mucus clear from Amazon, eucalyptus oil in humidifier. I've also tried Nexium, Omeprazole and Protonix bc I was told it could be GERD or LPR which is Laryngopharyngeal Reflux. None of these meds have given me any alleviation of my symptoms which include belching, constant clearing my throat and swallowing, getting choked up and coughing, pnd, throat irritation from clearing/swallowing, sensation of having a lump in throat, food get stuck in my throat, nausea and headaches. These symptoms stem from the constant constant constant swallowing and clearing my throat. I've seem my regular physician and an ENT regarding my symptoms and the medications listed above or the meds I was recommended to try. I had to change my lifestyle/diet due to this problem. It's been going on for nearly a year and I still have it. If anyone have any advice to rid this I would greatly appreciated. Thank you for listening.

I have never been diagnosed with Covid but received 2 doses of covid vaccine in April/May 21. Since that time it seems I have had this same chronic feeling of pflegm in the throat and constantly swallowing and never goes away. I am wondering if others that have had the vaccine and have also experienced this problem. Now 18 months later I am still struggling with these same symptoms.

I am 11 mo post vax injury and have added throat issues to my array of issues. Mine flares with food and supplements - constantly feel like I have mucus stuck in my esophagus and my right tonsil get mad at all foods. Really struggling to eat anything or even drink water. Have you found relief? I did start prednisone course for 5 days to maybe hit the swelling but tbd. Seeing a functional MD Thursday. I have no idea what to do.
