Oral lichen Planus: What home remedies or medications help you?
Anyone in the group suffer from Oral Lichen Planus. I am at my wits end with all these erosive sores in my mouth. I've had two biopsies , one in the inside cheek and one under the side of my tongue. The spot under the tongue is extremely sore to touch and has been for over a year. It scares me because the soreness never goes away, sometimes it isn't as sore but nothing helps. Any home remedies for this dreadful condition?

Hello…. I sure hope you get a diagnosis and can move on to improved health. This has scared me to death and I’m really tired of waiting on correct diagnosis!!
@steveandsteph Thanks so much for your response! It's certainly a real bonus that you had no pain with your biopsies but mine might be on my tongue and inner lips, where all the problem is, would they not? I'm very immunocompromised due to 4 or 5 other autoimmune conditions (GCA, Crohns, etc.) so, unfortunately, I've been advised not to have the shingles vax. I wish I could though.
I hope you'll get convincing results from your biopsies! It's such an awful affliction we've got. Warmest wishes, Laurie
Hi Laurie! I'm Stephanie btw. Could not get my name in there somehow. i think the inner lip will be okay but not sure about tongue. I still think you will be okay as mouth tissue heals really quickly.
Hate to hear about all your immunocompromise, really frustrating. I sure hope you don't get shingles, got enough going on.
I am looking into boosting my immune system as this OLP seems to be a real puzzle even for the "experts". I think much of this is related to allergies and immunity.
Yes, it's an awful affliction. Take care of yourself best you can:)
@loribmt Hi Lori. Thankyou for your suggestion with regard to non-irritating toothpastes. I'm still having sooo much distress with my yet undiagnosed mouth condition and, as posted earlier, I've finally got a "consultation appointment" with an oral surgeon two hours away for October 19th. I've tried to talk them into doing the biopsies the same day because my transportation cost is $95 each way, the initial consult fee is $180 (not covered, and no Seniors' discount) and the fee for the biopsies will be a minimum of $300 (again not covered, and no Seniors' discount). I guess I'm whining, but Sheesh!
I'll certainly get the Burt's Bees toothpaste for Kids . I've used other Burt's Bees products and they're great.
To leave this on a good note, I'm very happeeee at my new location in the Southern Okanagan area of BC, Canada!! 😊
Warmest regards, and thankyou for your caring and sensitive mentoring. Laurie
@steveandsteph Hi Stephanie! I almost typed your name in on my last post, guessing ... because you're a nurse... but I know there are lots of good men in the nursing profession too, so I didn't. Lol.
Thanks for your reassurance too. I know from this present affliction that my tongue is very slowww to heal, maybe because I'm immunocompromised. Difficult to eat, drink, talk ...well, you know. X0 😊 Laurie
I had a biopsy on both sides of me tongue done by my oral surgeon and was diagnosed with Lichens Planus. I did some research and it showed that you can have steroid injections directly injected into the ulcers. The oral surgeon did so and my ulcers on my tongue have cleared up.
@aurport005 Thanks so much for your encouraging message! Were the biopsies painful for a while afterward, for eating, talking, etc.
?
Yes, the incisions were painful for about 4 to 5 days max. I ate soft foods. The surgeon gave me pain medication while they healed up. The mouth heals pretty quick compared to other areas of the body.
@aurport005
Thanks again for your rapid reply and helpful information. Good to know what to expect!
Happy to help😊
