Neuropathy Pain at Night: What helps?

Posted by Donald @donfeld, Jun 8, 2020

THC or marijuana for me relieves pain from neuropathy. It works every time takes a few minutes and a few puffs of smoke and it comes it down for some crazy reason that makes this drug so popular.

@johnbishop . Hi John. I also sleep in my recliner every night, and have done so for four years due to a brainstem AVM and vertigo. I find that lying flat in a bed makes my vertigo much worse, somewhat the same feeling as having a wee bit too much vino,
'way back in the good old days.
My Lay-Z-Boy chair is my best friend these days! Warmest wishes,
Laurie

This helps getting back to sleep - From USA Today - I found the 4-7-8 breathing technique. You simply breathe in for a count of four, hold your breath for a count of seven, and then breathe out for a count of eight. “What this does is it lowers your heart rate in the middle of the night, so your body can relax and you can go back to dreamin

I saw a thread about someone recommending Kratom. I don’t think it is a good idea.
See this from The Mayo Clinic-

@solobeee1 Caution is a good thing but remember EVERY medication has side effects and scientific opinions change and ebb and flow. Look at marijuana. Gabapentin is the current "favored" pain medication but many adverse reactions are coming to light, including it making the top 10 list for overdoses. I only recently painfully learned how biased scientific opinions can be. Make informed decisions but remember generally all people do not react the same to ANY medication and we should support the individual's right to choose what is best for them.

I will keep this short and sweet the ONLY thing that helps me at night and during the day for that matter is good old oxycodone!! Unfortunately when I moved to Georgia from Arizona 5 years ago I lost my Dr. for 20 years. When I got to this godforsaken state. I found out quick that every PCP in Georgia was afraid of prescribing any thing that was a NARCOTIC. So everybody is has to find a “pain specialist”. I’ve been on the same dose for 3 years, I guess they never heard of or understand the meaning of tolerance!! I get 10% of what I received in Arizona. To bad the CDC and the FDA stuck there nose in where it didn’t belong. They already admitted they were wrong on trying to limit opioid prescriptions, but nothing is being done. I’m 67 I don’t want to live like this in pain morning to night. So if you find a good Dr. good luck. If I sound bitter that’s because I am!!

You’re right I’m having the same problem. Canibas does help me sleep.

You mention you’ll use it as weather changes - is this because hands get drier, or does it help with “cold” hand feelings?
Thanks @mugs24cancer , I too am interested in the research results. I try to put things in perspective and not have pity parties, but I almost cried when I could not get pierced earrings on for a special wedding this summer. I tried for 20 minutes before giving up; my husband is a dear, but he is squeamish on doing earrings, so I didn’t push. I had anticipated the hardship in advance, and the day before had gone to a large well-known store thinking they’d have one pair of clip-in’s I could buy. They had ZERO, so I was out of luck. I asked the clerk if there were any to be found. I’m guessing she was about 45 years old. She said she had no idea where anyone could find clip-ons, that her grandmother was “old-fashioned too” and she couldn’t find them anywhere. I am 57, so I felt like I got kicked while already down.
Oh well, my fault for shopping the day before and not planning ahead so I could have bought online in advance, but I love the thought of this cream helping to do life necessities like buttons, shoestrings, and snaps, plus a little pampering activities like putting on eye makeup without stabbing my eye and indulging in jewelry 😊. Keep us posted on results!

Hi Mugs! First, to answer your question, my hands actually get very COLD in 85 degree weather. This part of Neuropathy , hmmm is "quite bad," but I would rather say SUCKS to let you know more accurately the devastation of it! I can readily feel my hands to know they are cold. I cannot tell when my feet are in ice or on fire. I thought they were very cold, so I used Capazsin, but BIG mistake...they hurt worse than ever!! I already told that one, but I do tend to repeat myself when whatever hits me is HORRIBLE! Once or twice I took my shoe and sock off and felt my foot, but it felt ok, but the sensation said Freezing!
That erring episode for you before a wedding really stinks. I have had trouble as well, but no big events in my life recently. I have a solid good pair of hoops ( small) that I leave in all the time to avoid the hassle. They are NOT wedding attire, but would do. I am curios as to what you did? Do you have long or short hair? I would love that detail if you have the time.
I am going to look and see if I have any clip earrings for you. I am over my age time limit, so nobody expects me to look good anymore...hahaha.
I will try CBD on my hands first, then if that does not work, I will try Capzasin. I know they are cold!
Please keep in touch. Want to email? Best to you!! Glad you have a husband!

Try THC gummy’s at night. Also Kratom helped me a ton when my poor Dr stopped my fentanyl cold Turkey after 5 year on it. Same reason you had. One of my doctors recommended Kratom for pain. Now that I’ve tried it, I will never be off it because more of the time you won’t need narcotics. Give it a try.

I’ve been smoking pot since I was a teenager but I can’t smoke it now ~ got bronchitis from vaping a couple of years ago. Now we cook up edibles from distillates & have a bunch of other favorites. There’s lots of dispensaries here in Florida & lots of choices.
Now for the PN ~ I’ve been on Lyrica since 2008 which helps pain but not the numbness. It’s gotten worse but not as bad as others that check in here with real nightmares. The best remedy for me is no alcohol at all & no carbs, no sweets & as much exercise as possible. I ride a bike about 20-25 miles 3 times a week & go to PT 3 times a week.
That’s it for now. Check in anytime.

Compared to pharmaceutical drugs there’s no comparison with minimal side effects if any. I’m 78 years old on them and smoking since 20 years of age and loved every bit of it especially when it comes down to pain treatment. I just canceled all my anxiety medication‘s with all the side effects it’s just ain’t worth it. A couple of pokes of some weed and life is good. Especially sleep!

Hello: I have had leg and feet tremors and burning pin pricks in my face, legs, feet, and even my hands as I try to get to sleep. It's allegedly withdrawal from 20 years of klonopin, which I tapered off to avoid falls. I'm now taking 20 mg of CBD 30 min before sleep and 600 mg of gabapentin two hours before sleep. Doing calf and feet stretches before sleep and this routine is working well so far. It's been a week and am sleeping through the night. The CBD is miraculous.

I have been on clonazepam 1mg each night for many years. I also take pregabalin 200 mg three times a day, but does not seem to be working as well lately. Of course, always talk to doctor about any medication.
