Side Effects of Metoprolol?
Just started this med for spiking blood pressure in evening. Has anyone experienced severe stomach pain from this, or insomnia? I take with food, and the pain started almost 18 hours later!

Are you working with your cardiologist as you wean off metoprolol?
Maybe this is a question for your cardiologist. After 14 years your heart has grown used to the effects of metoprolol and need to wean off gradually but not w/o doctor's instructions.
I have been on metoprolol for 6 years (12.5mg × 2) for arrythmia.
@nancymcintyre -
Is your cardiologist aware that you are going off metoprolol ?
What was the initial reason to go on metoprolol?
My husband has been on metoprolol for years until a couple of weeks ago when it was discovered that his heart rate was very low due to a second degree heart block. The cardiologist just had him stop it at once. He noticed that he felt wound up when he got off it. It it seems to have leveled off now and his heart rate is up to a more normal number.
Well said. I have fired many Doctors for having this chip on their shoulder. Doctors definitely don't always know best. The doctor is working for the patient. The patient is not working for the doctor. I recently got rid of a cardiologist.
I think I have an unusual side effect from the metoprolol succinate. My cardiologist recently put me back on metoprolol. I had weaned myself off, and it had taken 6 months to do so. I had been off for 1 month with only small tachycardia events, and my GP and cardiologist wanted me back on it.
So, back I went, and it has been worse than ever. The metoprolol is driving my blood pressure thru the roof. I have and have always had very low BP. I ended up in the emergency room last Saturday, with 171/101 HR 80.
Has anyone had this experience???
and... I should add, I went to the emergency room because my face and arms both went numb. I thought it was a stroke.
Metoprolol gave me a low-flow TIA, sent me to the hospital for three days. Nobody knew what was going on, my cardiologist never had the guts to show up. Went home after 3 days, got myself a new cardiologist. I am on my fourth cardiologist. He seems to be interested in his patients.
It did raise my BP which had always been low.
