Treating Osteoporosis: What works for you?
Hi. I'm new to the site and am interested in treating osteoperosis. I'm 39 yo and recently had a bone density that showed I'm at -2.4. So, going through the intial "I can't believe it" stuff. 🙂

Thank you. Please let us know your doctor's recommendation.
That was my experience as well - after a few years on Prolia several vertebrae fractured leaving me in a good deal of pain, and the oral surgeon my dentist recommended is reluctant to do an implant because I am on Prolia. I don't have many regrets in my life, but I do have one: ever going near Prolia!
Thank you for your reply. What have you decided to do about your need for oral surgery?
@windyshores Hope your visit with your daughter is great and that she noticed you are a little stronger. That is great to know. You are lucky that driving is an option for you. Tymlos has been good for you without alot of side effects. I hope that soon I get to be driving again which would be a great help. The hare is far ahead of the tortoise and that is great. Take care and check in now and then. KLH
Thank you friend! I have pain and cannot lift, but your challenges far surpass mine at the moment.
Sure am glad to hear from you. The tortoise thinks about the hare most every day. Saw my PCP Thurs. He thinks my Cardio Drs should be watching all the new drugs. Had blood work done, results are interesting. My TSH, FT4, and PTH are all on the rise again and some high abnormal values. My PCP is calling Monday about my results, can not wait to see what he is going to do next. On the good side, my HCT and HCT were great, not low and overall CBC was good for me.
I can not wait for this hot weather to go away and bring some much-needed rain. My yard trees that are 6-10 years old are turning brown, not a pretty sight. I hope we do not lose them.
Question- do you take your Mg and Ca together? My Ca level is staying too high, so do not really need any extra, but my K is at the low normal level. Trying to keep a balance sometimes is diffcult.
Take care and hope you had a great visit. Have not seen by daughter in almost three years. Keep up the good work at 7. KLH
I take my calcium and magnesium separately, at least two hours apart. I was told they compete with each other but so many supplements have them together in a consistent ratio. I also take 2-3,000 units Vitmain D and 45mcg Vitamin K2, and potassium in the form of low sodium V-8.
If your PTH is high, doesn't that contribute or even cause osteoporosis? There was a lot of discussion on this on the Inspire forum. People have surgery on their parathyroid rather than take medication for bones, as I recall, or maybe both.
Has your T3 been tested? Low thyroid means meds too. Are you on a medication for your thyroid? I forget..
How is your heart doing? We can do private messages if you prefer.....
I read that you should not take calcium and magnesium together. Do you know if that is true?
Are any of you taking collagen for osteopenia or osteoporosis?
The Bone Support I take has both calcium and magnesium so I take them together after a meal. However, there are several kinds (forms?) of magnesium so that might be true for some of them. I think it's hard to get all of this exact, and in balance and at the right ratio, so I just bought the supplement that has good reviews, with calcium from algae, and am hoping for the best 😏.
