What's your review of Cochlear Osia 2 System?

I am getting the implants in a week or so. Would like to hear from people who are using these bone conduction devices.

Very helpful...thanks for posting your pictures. Do you recall how long it took for your skin to "feel" back to normal (if it has yet)? Or maybe better question, how long before the numbness, weird feeling eased up? Thanks again.

Thanks! I can't remember how long it took, but the numbness did go away. It probably happened when the swelling dissipated My scalp feels normal now.

Thanks Stephanie. I’ll check that out. I believe insurance has allowed me to have bilateral implants. Scheduled for May 17. Very excited to hear the things I thought I would never hear again.

Oh I bet! You're going to enjoy those sounds!

06/10/2022. Hello everyone, new to this group having been bothered by intermittent and lengthening hearing loss in my left ear since relocating to SE Georgia three years ago. Coincidentally I also suffered from terrible sinus issues, resulting in my third surgery in Nov 2021. Sinus’s are in much better shape and much better than they have ever been thanks to a wonderful doctor at the Jacksonville campus.
I am a bit of a music nut and was initially very concerned about having some sort of device to increase the availability of hearing in my left ear. I also believe that my hearing is being adversely affected by the same issues that brought me to my knees with respect to sinus’s, so we had to do something radical. Last week I had part one of the surgery to “install” the transponder portion of the Osia system, the internal component. I decided to go Osia because I ride a motorcycle, always with a helmet, and struggled to understand how an abutment and helmet were going to work. Surgery was completed this past Monday so still early days here at the moment. Having had two prior surgeries on my left ear I had a pretty good idea as to what to expect. Numbness, in and around the ear which will dissipate with time, swelling and one very angry muscle! Now we are five days in and things are improving, the muscle is still a little angry but nothing compared to what it was like Monday through Thursday. One of the things I have noticed, and wonder if others have experienced the same thing, is that when I tap my teeth together the sound is somewhat metallic in my ears, almost like I am wearing a metal brace. I am assuming it is due to the transponder implant? Curious to hear how others have made it through surgery and setup of the processor.

I am responding to your query about the implant portion of your Osia 2 system. I am totally deaf in my right ear due to sudden hearing loss, and I have moderste hearing in my left. It has been close to a year since I had my Osia implant, but I have not heard any metallic or other strange sounds when I click my teeth. I hear swishing, clicking, and ringing in my head, but I heard those sounds before the surgery. I experienced only mild discomfort during the first couple of days and several months of a numb feeling in my scalp which has completely disappeared now. When I first put the processor on, I immediately noticed a difference in volume of sounds and being able to determine the direction from which they came. The hearing is not perfect. In crowded situations, it remains a challenge, but I will take this from being completely deaf any day. I wish you the best of luck as you navigate your journey to better hearing. It is a process retraining your brain to accomodate the difference in how you hear sounds. I also am a music lover, and you will just have to experiment with your volume for the best clarity.

Hello, I may have been a little too vague with my comment regarding the metallic sound I hear when I tap my teeth. I am just six days into the first surgery and do not yet have my Osia 2 processor, I get this in another three weeks I hope. So, the metallic sound I hear is not going through any device, it’s the sound I get through my jaw bone. It doesn’t bother me, it was just a surprise!
Everything else seems to be going to plan thus far. I do have normal hearing in my right ear so I am hopeful that my ability to hear in different circumstances will be good, time will tell.

I am new to this group. I am just starting the process of having the osia system surgery. I have had many questions!!! Fortunately, I’ve received many answers from this forum as well as others. I do have somewhat of a minor concern. I guess vanity is kicking in! I know my head must be shaved for the surgery. Are they able to do this under the longer upper layers of my hair? Therefore, the incision would be covered. As well as possibly the processor covered by my hair?
Thank you!!

Hello all! I am new to this group. I seen a lot of questions being posed about the OSIA 2 device.
I have had this device inserted for my right ear for my hearing loss and I LOVE IT since feb 2021.
I have had bad hearing loss since I was 9 years old and been through the MANY MANY hearing aids. If you have questions please reach out.

Hello, it is reassuring to hear that your implant is working well for you. I am having my Osia2 device configured and attached on July 13th and have great expectations. I am in an usual situation in as much as the ear which is being addressed partially works on occasion, for some reason there is some sort of allergic reaction going on in that ear. In spring it pretty much shuts down completely but then in July it comes back to life, unfortunately no one really seems to understand why. Have gone through allergy testing last and finding nothing it is confusing and frustrating. My only concern right now is what is my brain going to do with two signals coming at it from the left side? Hopefully it will be able to cope and make sense of it all.

Your wound looks GREAT to just be a week past surgery. Based on my own experience, the larger, swollen area at the bottom (about mid-ear) is where the vibrating mechanism of the implant is located and your magnet will be above that. My pics might help you guesstimate where your magnet is.
In my first picture (the wound), the mid-ear section looks like yours--it's protrudes more than the other areas. Then in the second image, you can see that my magnet pad and sound processor are above that.
Glad you're through the hard part! 🙂

I see a small wire coming out of the processor. Could you please tell me what that is? I haven’t noticed it on other pictures. Thank you so much for sharing.

That is clear line (like fishing line) that connects a hair clip to my device to prevent the device from falling if I accidentally hit it when running my hands through my hair.

I have partial hearing in my left ear, the same side my Osia device is on, and the two inputs mesh seamlessly. It is totally natural sounding. I don’t think you’ll have any trouble! I’m excited for you and hope all goes well!
