Post-operative Gastroparesis
I have Gastroparesis .. the post operative type.. where some of the nerves that surround the stomach were damaged and my stomach is slow to empty.

my daughter began to develop the above-referenced symptoms about three months post bariatric by-pass surgery (that was one year ago). It has progressed to the point that she has almost daily nausea and this week she had abdominal pain for four consecutive days. It has still not subsided. I am now wondering if she has increased scar tissue. I would welcome any comments from people who have had similar symptoms. Thank you
Rose Marie
Are there any trials happening at Mayo for endoscopy procedure GPOEM for Gastroparesis? I under that there are promising results.
I have suffered for 3 years.
I do all the message and exercises to strengthen my stomach wall. I follow the diet.
I get better and then I get such cramps for days and am just miserable. I really want to get into a trial at some hospital for the G POEM.
Hi @rosexxxx,
I definitely feel for your daughter. Speaking from experience it is very painful and frustrating when you don't have a clear answer. My pain was medication induced. All the things I was taking after my bypass were cause ulcers in the bypassed portion of my stomach. I vomited every day and had trouble staying hydrated.
Is your daughter currently taking any medication?
Hi Amanda, and I feel for all that you have gone through. I hope that things have cleared up for you. Yes my daughter is taking antidepressants and medication for severe abdominal pain. The frustrating thing about these disorders is that the symptoms can cause depression and the depression can cause the symptoms. Her bariatric surgeon said he "thought" he saw a shadow on her small intestine near the stomach but no scaring. If her vagus nerve was damaged it would cause all these problems. she only vomited three times in the last few months but the problem is the daily nausea, severe abdominal cramps and slow motility . Also occasional headaches. She is trying to make an appointment at stanford clinic for further diagnosis. There is always the vagus nerve stimulator but if you have/had ulcers that would not be applicable. i really appreciate your responding and your courtesy. Rose Marie
I just want to compliment you for your discipline and confidence in your plan. Have you figured all this out yourself or with guidance? Some of it seems to be creative. Again congratulations on your plan and for sharing.
Brenda, yes Mayo Clinic is studying the use of gastric per-oral endoscopic myotomy (G-POEM). Here is the abstract of a recent study.

Thank you so much!!
I really want to get into a trial if possible. Regards, Brenda
Besides the small frequent meals I also walk after eating…..I get bloated just drinking my coffee in the morning….I walk even when I hurt because it gives me relief either by passing gas or gets the digestion moving….Finding out what I could eat was very helpful, and sometimes it doesn’t matter what I ate, but the quantity of my safe foods…. 🙏❤️
I'm now 85.. nothing has changed in my ability to eat the way I have described for now 7 years.. in the summer I enjoy a frozen Mango Margarita..with coarse sugar on the rim.. done like a smoothie.. in the blender
That’s what we think happened to me…..it’s been a process in finding answers with a lot of reading & with trial & errors on what to eat, quantities (very small amounts & lots of walking after eating) …. Can’t wear anything tight….I wear sizes two times bigger on the bottoms for Comfort….wearing elastic waist too! Don’t like the look, but Comfort is more important! I wear a lot of comfort clothes around the home & get out of my church clothes as fast as I can when I get home….I had two hiatal hernia surgeries & it was the last one that he tied my stomach around the top & attached it to my diaphragm!!!! 🙏❤️
