Anyone have any nebulizer recommendations?

Posted by marlin @marlin, Nov 3, 2021

Does anyone have any nebulizer recommendations. Would like something compact and easy to clean. Also any online sites that people recommend to get your supplies such as nebulizer and saline vials from? briefly looking it seems like there are a lot of options and they are fairly inexpensive.

I use the Innospire Go by Phillips. It’s a mesh nebulizer with no tubing or anything disposable. It is basically silent (a big deal for me with already damaged hearing!).
Only the mouthpiece needs to be cleaned and it can be boiled or steamed. Never in the microwave!

If you will be using Arikayce you need to go with the recommendation of your respiratory therapist, otherwise it's just personal preference. I have tried a bunch of compact units, and keep going back to my "Big Green" Pari Vios. My 7% saline comes from Walgreens, with my part B Medicare (since it is a solution used in a device, my copay is less than any online price. I prefer the Pari Plus mouthpiece, and order 2 at a time from whoever has the lowest price at the time.

@marthamac I just watched a you tube video on how to use the Innospire Go by Phillips. I did not know there was such a simple to use and fast nebulizer. Perfect for me when traveling. Thanks, Bill

I have had asthma since age 2, am turning age 80 this month. My peak flow meter score has never been higher than 250 on a scale of 0 to 800. In my infancy, both parents smoked. I have never smoked. I use a small pocket held nebulizer Flyp, with albuterol, rechargeable, that easily fits in a pocket or purse. It’s the greatest thing since chocolate and very easy to clean. I prefer minimal meds so only take one deep inhalation abt 4-5 times per day. I also use Symbicort if I have a rough day, but not too often. I find that doing extremely (!) slow motion stretches of my neck, shoulders, and torso help clear up mucus, which also improves my breathing. There are no miracle answers for anything, Because I’ve lived in this body for so long, perhaps I know it better than anyone else, so trying to figure out non medical solutions (like gentle stretching) work best for me. So far, so good. PS, I’m also a vegetarian. Good luck to all!

Sue, I noticed that you replace nebulizer mouthpieces with regularity. I’m baffled. What’s to wear out about them? I give mine a vinegar bath, a warm water rinse and set it aside to air dry. Don

I was sent home with the Aerobika last year when ai left NJH and ordered (& paid out of picket ) for the Ombra (which I ordered by phone from supplier and received quickly…no hassle) It comes in a travel bag, it is noisy, it takes 10 minutes to sterilize the Aerobika (warm soapy water/air dry). It works well for me and has traveled well also. Nebulizing for me is a chore, responsibility, and the Aerobika is exhausting…but I am dutiful and staying healthy. Truly a small price to pay for feeling good. My saline is called in by doc to my pharmacy monthly and is cheap ($4.81) 7% saline.

Hope you find a model that works well for you, stay well.

NJH recommendation - it was explained (via my local pulmo nurse) that less-than-visible cracks and crevices can develop where bugs (not necessarily just MAC) can hide from ordinary washing. It's a cheap precaution.

That said, I no longer am using Big Green daily ad I have switched to the Innospire Go for how quiet & fast it is. Only downside is the complicated mouthpiece/cup/mesh screen head - must be gently simmered periodically to disinfect - no steam or microwave treatment. Also for those who use their Aerobike with the neb, I would say it would be hard if not impossible to hook together.

@thumperguy I also give my nebulizer a vinegar bath and then set it aside to dry. I suppose I'm not as diligent as most. I loved the Innispire Go because I could not believe how fast and quiet it was. It only lasted about a year for me., maybe two but I plan to buy another one! I also have the Pari Vios and it works fine. Just takes longer than the Innospire Go. Nan
