I had a total hip replacement 6 months ago. I am having so much pain in the middle of my thigh. I can barely walk. And my doctor acts like I'm crazy! Thought about going to another surgeon... Please Help!!!
Hello, it is difficult to live with pain, especially after a surgery that was supposed to make you feel better.
When you say "pain in the middle of my thigh" can you be a little more specific and describe where - front, back, inner or outer side? How near the hip, and how far does it extend? What does the pain feel like? Is it tingling, burning, stabbing, aching? How long has it been going on? Did the surgeon take any images when you started having the pain?
Wow, that's a lot of questions. But a better description will help those of us who have had joint replacement surgery offer suggestions about the next steps. Those of u on Mayo Connect are all patients ourselves and can relate to the frustration you feel when something goes wrong and nobody seems to want to listen.
Please share some more information so we can help you find an answer.

The pain is in the front of my leg. Between my knee and hip, about a 3 x 4 spot. And it feels like I was stabbed with a long needle. I can be fine one minute, then can't walk the test of the day because of the pain. It's been going on about two months now. The surgeon took an x-ray and said everything looked good.

I can't give you medical advice, but from experience this sounds like you may have pain from the nerves healing or regenerating. Nerves become VERY angry when disturbed or cut during surgery (both normal occurrences.) They can take a very long time to regenerate - after one hip surgery, I had intermittent pain for several months along the outside of my leg, and still have a numb area 10 years later.
Or there may be a problem with the stem and bone growing together. There is a coating on the stem that the bone should eventually link with, and every body responds differently.
In your situation, I would try asking one more time for help from the surgeon, then go back to my primary for assistance finding the right doc.

I have tried everything, heat, ice ,massage and anything else I could try and nothing helped. Sometime I can wake up in pain, but mostly when walking. I can't even get half way through a city block!

That sounds like a really good plan. There seems to be a "disconnect" between the doctor telling you everything "looks good" and wanting to put a plate in your leg...

I’ve had a hip replacement & rev., my mom had a hip replacement 7 or 8 yrs ago. She has pain in her thigh as well. I had it briefly, off & on. Her Dr. told her it was from the stem…hers was a little longer than what they had intended to use…but they used what they had & that is what they say is causing her pain

Unfortunately, there’s nothing short of replacing the stem, but at this point, it’s like having the whole thing done over again. Since it’s the stem, I don’t think that’s something anybody (Dr) would do except for maybe life threatening conditions. Pain meds…or meditation to become enlightened & overcome

I started coming here, (Connect Mayo) for answers, ideas…however, I had so many things wrong, I probably have posts under several “issues”….some I probably have forgotten.
I’m not a Dr., but keep trying, it couldn’t hurt. Maybe you’ll get lucky…luckier than I was
