Neuropathy symptoms are worse when I sit or lay down: Anyone else?

Posted by pitepalten @pitepalten, Nov 26, 2021

My problems are worse when I sit or lay down. I now work standing and limit sitting or laying watching tv. When I wake up my arms have fallen asleep. This started 3 months ago and the discomfort is all over but worse in my arms, legs and back. I have had all the tests but no one can find anything. I also have a rash on my neck. It has been there for a week. Doesn’t itch. My dr prescribed 30mg Zymbalta. I take it prior to going to bed. Anyone have similar symptoms?

A neurologist at a teaching hospital near me said the chances of anything to help me are "vanishingly small" but to try "Two Old Goats Essential Oil Lotion" (Amazon) on my legs at bedtime. It helps enough with my leg burning and foot numbness to get to sleep, but it wears off after two or three hours.

Thanks - ready to try the Old Goats!

Does taking clonazepan help with daytime numbness and tingling when sitting and laying down situation?

I've heard that stress increases the pain. And I've experienced the correlation enough to believe it. Taking a klonopin when work gets stressfull helps bring down the pain after about an hour, I believe, by reducing my stress. I have the prescription for anxiety and spoke to my Psychiatrist about it and she says it does often help in that way.

Wow. Many of these posts are like looking in a mirror. I hope that neurologist is wrong about thyings to potentially help. That's a scary thought. I will try the lotion, though. Thanks for the tip!

The is no one-size-fits-all with polyneuropathy. Hopefully, you'll be in a group where they can do something.

I don't know what your diagnosis is. However, for those with neuropathy, it is common to experience flare-ups in the evening, while sedentary

I’m like the opposite. I sit all the time because standing becomes painful. Lying down in bed feels like relief from gravity pulling me down. But when I get up I can’t move right away because of the pain and stiffness and it takes a few seconds to acclimate to walking again. It’s so discouraging not being able to go for a walk or dance again.

I’m going to ask my rheumatologist on Thursday is I can take more gabapentin. I also take duloxitine once a day (which my dentist told me about) and that seems to help me more than the gabapentin. But my dosage is only 100 twice a day in comparison to your 1200 twice a day. I’ll let you know what she says. Wishing you a good day 😊
